Need advice on lowering cholestrol (LDL)

    Hi Ladies,

    My DH is diagnosed with high cholesterol level (219) and he is 32. And he is prescribed with 6 weeks of medication.

    I have read in other threads on lowering cholesterol not to include coconut/coconut oil.

    We include coconut for at least 4 days in a week in one or the other way like kootu/curry and my DH really loves food with coconut added. Also he is shakehead for salads....

    Please suggest me ways to make lunch more interesting...

    Please specify if you are a vegetarian. Any physical activity for 45 mts will keep down our cholesterol levels to the maximum. Once we start taking medications, we have to take it the entire life. Change your lifestyle. Do some activity for an hour atleast. Also, you can eat whatever you want, and for coconuts especially, you can change it to 3 days a week instead of 4 days may be. Take lots of leafy veggies, vegetables and fruits. Walnuts will reduce cholesterol, so take 2 every morning. Oats is said to reduce cholesterol, but there are much more healthier options than oats. It does not provide any health benefits. You can add thinai, maize, jowar, bajra, wheat in your diet, which has high fibre and nutritive content.

    check reader's digest website for Tips to reduce cholestrol......
    1.eat asian pear everyday
    2.drink green tea(without sugar )
    3.orange juice also reduces cholestrol
    4.avoid butter,cashew,sugar.......
    5.take Isabghol everynight with warm water......

    Coconut is OK and don't fry it - Use grated coconut after cooking and sprinkle in the dish as far as possible.
    Include garlic as he like - He can take Garlic Pearls
    If he drinks alcohol, ask him to reduce / stop.
    Don't Use Red milk (use a lighter one)

    This is a good point to be taken care. He has zero physical activity because of his job pressure.

    it has to be holistic approach. Healthy diet and Exercise will help to bring down the cholesterol.

    Could you please share details on Isabghol and I googled that Isabghol is rich in fiber and colon cleanser. Can this be taken without any prescription?
