Can trip to Ajanta Ellora be combined with Shirdi?

Hi, me and my family are visiting Shirdi in September. One of my friends suggested me that we can combine trip to Ajanta Ellora with Shirdi. Is it possible? Our train tickets are already booked and we would have one spare day in Shirdi. Is going to Ajanta Ellora and coming back be possible in one day?

If possible, would you recommend to alter the trip like this? What will be the mode of transport we will be taking from Shirdi to Ajanta Ellora and how much time is expected to be taken?

You can combine the journey but it can be a bit hectic.
Actually, Ellora is near Aurangabad. Ajantha is near Jalgaon. In case you want you can hire a car or sumo for the journey. It is best if you defer your journey by a day and stop over at night at Aurangabad.
My friend who recently visited Shirdi, did manage to visit Ajanta and Ellora by hiring a car. The taxi driver charged around Rs 1500 for the trip.

I agree with Raminder that it will be a hectic. There is no public transport available and you will have to take a Sumo or taxi.
Ellora is near Aurangabad. Ajantha is near Jalgaon. I will also recommend an overnight stay at Aurangabad.
The distances are as follows.
1. Shirdi - Ellora- Aurangabad- 30 kms
2. Aurangabad - Ajanta- 100 kms
3. Ajantha - Jalgaon - 55 kms
Jalgaon is the nearest railway station from where you can easily get tickets for onward journey.
