    Re: Recommendation for sedation

Your answer lies in the question you asked. She is 4 and half now and her tooth would not fall in another 2 or more years. The primary / milk tooth are guides to the the permanent teeth. If the permanent are already out of the tooth buds and caught a hold of where it needs to grow out to, then, extracting the milk tooth is safe, like less than 6 months it is.
But such long gaps, she maybe asked to wear space maintainer so that other teeth doesn't fill in with the lose of tooth material. I hope you understand what I am trying to say here. I know you are not thinking of removing the tooth, but, I just wanted you and any parent reading this the importance of milk tooth.

The crown is to protect the tooth that has been filled. The filling wouldn't stay long and that's why the crown has been suggested. She would need to use the tooth really careful with little or no biting if no crown has been put. But, that a'int possible to a small girl like her. She could break it off too easily and then again starts the process of getting it filled / fixed. A crown will protect the filling within and the tooth as well. Moreover, she neednt be too too careful biting onto it. Its hard and safe.

Next, again, since she is too small and wouldn't cooperate well for the whole procedure and even small disturbance could cause the procedure to go for longer periods and has chances of the patient getting hurt or even getting fearful of Dentists in future, its always safe to sedate young patients for procedures involving more teeth.

Its your call but my advice, please save the tooth by any means just so that you don't land wearing braces for her by the age of 11.. Its very important to keep the milk tooth till its time for it to fall on its own. Because, it is there for many reasons.

    Take care.

    Sudha,

Nothing much other than regular ones. Brush twice, gargle after every meal, massage your gums, make sure you eat very healthy diet comprising Vitamin C and Calcium. You can gargle with warm salt water for the odor.

Best Luck and have a safe L&D.

Yeah. :) Take care and go ahead with your treatment. Ask your Doctor for step by step details and also ANY doubts you have before you go for the surgery if at all.

Everything will be fine. Dont worry. Will keep you in my prayers.

    Sarayu,

Unfortunately, nothing much will be done other than filling right now at this age of your son. Only way would be getting it refilled on and on so that the decay doesnt really get worsened up till the root.

However, I would suggest you to see a Pedodontist. They are specialised in treating kids. If somehow they can manage a crown ( acrylic ) to just cover the tooth up for a few months or a year or more, atleast the next line of treatment will get sometime to plan. Hope you understand what I say.

Visit a Pedodontist and take a second opinion if you already just visited one.

    Best Luck and take care

    Hello Dr.,
My son is 2yrs old now. He started sucking his thumb very early(maybe from 1 month). Everybody in my family adviced me to get rid of his thumb sucking habit. So after much hesitation I applied him femite nail bite in his thumb at 18 months. It will taste bitter so he used to cry a lot, he neither sleeps nor eats. He will cry,cry and cry due to its bitter taste and being not able to suck his thumb. Meanwhile i read an article about thumb sucking in a baby care website that it is ok to suck the thumb until four years since the permanent teeth come after that period. So I let this matter free. But again some say to get rid of this habit now itself or else the facial features will get spoiled. I am very worried about this now since he will cry a lot and make a big fuss and being alone here wont be able to manage also. It will be very helpful if you give me some suggestions.
