Dear chitra and sunkam ma'am Thanks for the wonderful info. Can u tell me if one can use Aralli (oleander) for shiva. In some temples they refuse to take aralli flowers for shiva deity.Any rason for that ? What is the tamil name for this flower "Datura" (a flower used in shiva worship) a nd "kadambam" (used for amman worship). Appreciate yr help in this regards. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.Take care. regards latha
Dear Latha, I have not heard of arali not being used for Shiva. Datura is a new name to me ! Is that a hindi word? Kadambam is mixed flowers, strung together. Love, Chithra.
Dear mam, Thank u so much for the information. I just wanted to know so that on the respective days, the respective flowers can be used. Thanks once again. Luv, Presci
Dear Chitra Ma'am, Sorry for replying so late.kadamba is an orange ball shaped flower that is used for murugan pooja esp in Palani It is not our regular kadambam garland sold in chennai In regards to datura flower.it is a sanskrit word.it is used for shiva pooja alone. Do u have any idea what these flowers are called in chennai.? Please check the attached files.Appreciate yr valuable input in this.Ma'am it is always a pleasure reading yr contribution in this site whatever the discussion is....Take care. Happy Shiva Rathri !!!!!!! regards latha
mktm, These datura looks more like the white version of the blue bells...and there is a old story which one of the thatha's who used to work for my granny say, it is a flower that came from shiva's heart.I really thought it was a folklore....not sure...if this is true...confirm if you have any idea. and there is the nagalingam flower, which is used only for worshipping shiva again.
Hi shanthi I don't think datura belongs to bluebell flower variety.Anyway iam totally clueless on this matter.Lets hope our chithra ma'am clears our doubt regarding this. As far as i know Nagalingam flowers are used only for shiva worship. Thanks for yr inputs.Have a great day and Happy Shiva Rathri!!! regards mtkm
