Recently a senior Haryana minister had to resign because his ex female employee had committed suicide. In her suicide note she blamed the Minister for harassing her.The national media has highlighted numerous instances of women who have met an untimely death because of their proximity to men who were drunk with political power.
Bhanwari Devi of Rajasthan is a case in point. She was close to multiple political leaders and very close to at least two of them. In fact, she had a shot an intimate video tape with one of them. It appears she was asking for money and when she became inconvenient she was simply bumped off. In fact she was bumped off in such a manner that the CBI had to seek the help of US Law enforcement agencies to confirm whether the bone pieces found on the river bank actually belonged to Bhanwari Devi or not!
A common factor is that while the women are very often brutally murdered, the men folk involved not only prosper but hire top lawyers, and take advantage of the lacunae in the law to stay out of jail. There are plenty of other instances spread all over India.

    Hi Shefali
I feel the relationship is like a moth and fire. Allured by the prospect of easy money and trappings of power, these women fall a victim to their "over arching" ambition. They are consumed by the very flame which allures them.
All men are the same. Once their immediate aim is established and they are done making the women dance to their tunes, they simply get them bumped off. Therein lies the essential tragedy - exploitation of women.
I dont like your line _ the men folk "prosper". With a vigilant media, spy cams and news channels hungry for news, most of the politicians see their political careers nose dive. Many a time they have to resign and spend a few days behind the bars.

    Hi
I agree that women are drawn like moths to wily politicians. But I dont think only Bhanwari Devi's fall for politicians. Legally aware women also fall a victim to the viles of politicians. Only yesterday the newspapers were full of the death of Fiza. Fiza or Ms. Bali (her original name) was one of the top legal advisors of Haryana govt. She got married to Chand, one of the sons of ex Haryana CM Bhajan Lal. At that time Chand was the deputy CM of the state. They converted to Islam to marry. Chand became Chand Mohd. Chand Mohd and Bali gave TV interviews of their love for each other.
The news created a furore. Chand had to resign from the cabinet. Chand's former wife began making noises. Soon Bhajan Lal disowned his son. The marriage then fell apart. Later Chand divorced Fiza. Fiza's body lay rotting for 4 days before it was discovered this Sunday. There is reason to believe that it was a suspicious death and Fiza was unlikely to commit suicide. What an end for Fiza!

I agree it is such a shame. Most such affairs end in untimely deaths!

    Hi
Yes there are plenty of instances of shameless politicians.
One singular instance of an ambitious girl meeting an untimely end is that of poetess Madhumita Shukla. While very often she recited borrowed poetry at Poetry meets, she came close to former UP Minister Amarmani Tripathi. Soon, the minister's wife came to know and started objecting. It is said that along with her husband and a few henchmen, she plotted the murder of Madhumita. When Madhumita was murdered she was pregnant with Amarmani's child. The case was investigated by the CBI. Both Amarmani and his wife are now cooling their heels in jail with superior courts refusing to grant any relief.
The long hand of law finally caught up with them.

    Hi
Congrats Shefali for such a nice thread.
I am reminded of the famous lines by the English novelist Thomas Hardy :

As flies to wanton boys, are we to Gods
They kill us for their sport.

I feel this movement towards political and economic power by vulnerable sections of society is natural. Indian society is still in a state of flux. On one hand, are all those glittering Malls and shiny new cars and on the other hand are the unpaved roads, lack of clean drinking water, and electricity missing in half the country. Women like other sections of the are still to find their feet and standing in society. They are subject to multiple restrictions everywhere from the home, in-laws and office.
In any case, such exploitation of women is not confined to India alone, there are plenty of cases in USA too.

    Hi Sejal
Men will forever be men. Once they get caught on the wrong foot, they try their best to wriggle out.
I would like to point out an interesting drama enacted by N D Tiwari. He is a respected political figure. A man by the name of Rohit Sharma claimed he is the son of Tiwari. He even produced photos to boost his case. Mr Tiwari would have none of it and tried every trick in the book to refuse to give his blood sample for DNA matching with Rohit Sharma. Ultimately he had to bow to the High Court. Need less to say, Rohit won the case. What did Mr Tiwari do after losing the battle - well he had the face to call Rohit's mother names!!!!

The affairs in the Madan Gopal Kanda case have taken a very interesting turn. It appears that Mr Kanda was actually Minister of State for Home in the state Govt. He appears to be important politically. One of the co-accused in the case, has already been arrested. Fearing his own arrest, Kanda is running hither and tither. He has not appeared before the Delhi Police which had issued him summons. It appears he is trying for anticipatory bail.
My sympathies lie with the family of the air hostess. They are up against a very clever man indeed who has tried to cover his tracks. I hope the law of the land catches up with him.

There is more on the Airhostess suicide case.
Newspaper story on Aug 12,2012 :
The Delhi Police has stated to a Delhi court that Geetika Sharma had terminated her pregnancies.

No wonder the villain Kanda is absconding and doing all he can to escape the long arm of the law. Since Kanda was rich and powerful, he had many assistants to carry out his nefarious activities. Someone loaned him a sim connection to call the air hostess, others like Aruna took Geetika to doctors for MTPs.
Only God knows how many other lives Kanda has destroyed. This man should be publically flogged.
