Yes, gotta agree with Aabha. Even if your insurer does not pay for this, the interferon test is one that would confirm or not whether your child has even latent TB. If there is latent TB, it is better to have it treated as the climate in the west is more conducive for the growth of the bacteria. If it is just a false positive treatment is completely unnecessary. For your friend whose child has loose stools, ask her to ask her to doctor for a probiotic prescription in addition to giving yoghurt. Discontinuing treatment will give rise to drug resistant varieties.
Hi Ramphor, I was in Jersey city for past3 yrs, just moved to this place, it happend to many of my Indian friends who came from India with kids. Few completed the course, few stopped after few months... I don't know which doctor you took your kid, if you wish try Dr.Arkus Fred 3526 John F Kennedy Blvd Arkus & Politis MDs Jersey City, NJ 07307 Ph no: 201-653-5933 They are very good in all the aspects.I have been showing from my daughter birth and now she is 13months....even now i take her to them travelling 1 hour in car... Just take 2nd opinion.
Indians docs that have given me antibiotics (in India) have always given B-complex with it. The B-complex will keep you from getting diarrhea as the reason you get the diarrhea is the antibiotics kill off the B-complex producing bacteria. In USA this is unkown to the American docs I have asked.
Thanks all for the reply . WE consulted another doctor and he has said that there is no need for medication as of now .If required we will do it after 2 years or so . This doctor had an idea about the asian vaccination shcedules and there affects.
i am facing the same problem....my 21/2 yr old had positive skin test but negative X ray but still doctor wanted to give her 9 month of medicine......I am very sceptic about giving her medicine that will affect liver etc.......going to get second opinion. shaily
Hi Shaily, Please share your experience....my son 3.5 years showed ppd +ve and chest x-ray -ve and pediatrician put him on 9 month course of Isoniazid... He had BCG as well...We are tring to get second opinion to see if we can do blood test "QuantiFERON®–TB Gold In-Tube test (QFT-GIT)" Please share us your experience. Thanks.
I saw this thread in 2012, when my son had positive skin test, at the age of 3.5 years. I made a decision to not give ISONIAZID. He is 7.5 years now and today his Interferon Gamma Assay result came negative. At last the stress we had for 4 years came to an end. I want to share my story as it is. When my son had positive skin test, I could not accept the result, because of earlier BCG vaccination. But our Pediatrician along with Infectious disease specialist were not buying it and pushed us a lot. We did Interferon Gamma Assay and that also came positive. And again, I could not accept the result, for the fact that Interferon Gamma Assay is not recommended for kids below 5 years, since there is a high chance of false positives. I went for a second opinion with Best Doctors . They agreed, that PPD skin and Interferon Gamma Assay results are not 100% accurate. I got a suggestion to either proceed with ISONIAZID or redo Interferon Gamma Assay at the age of 7 years or above and then decide on medication. I picked the second suggestion and today I feel happy for that decision. Note: Some Doctors will insist to redo PPD skin test, and they won't prescribe Interferon Gamma Assay. If thats the case, look for labs that does this test without prescription.
