I am rather a compulsive reader, from Champak to India Today, historical sagas to M&B's, Ayn Rand to my son's course books-you name it.:coffee

    What I get from it
I enjoy rather love reading, visuals start to run on my mental screen, its like experiencing whet you never did, never knew or never will be able to do,like living
    in someone else's skin.

I can say books have a hand in making me what I am todaybonk
they changed my thought process, helped me overcome my inhibitions,
esp in public conduct of self, also read other's actions as words.

My parents (and grandparents too) have the habit of reading
I must have picked it up from them. As a child ,during vacations we were gently pushed to listen when my maa would read saints preachings for granny(yes i did not like, but today try the same for my child), these have instilled positive values in me.

    I drool looking at books:drool,
for an outing take me to a bookstore and buy me books.

My maa(she studied psychology and cncelling) was trying to put in my head the virtues of reading good stuff....
I said ....I read as a viewer, not to ingest all, rather to learn what is bad and
    then abhor it.:idea
I feel books made me as i'm today
What do you think that the books have done for you
    what say

    Dear muzna,
I thought of discussing the same issue here, but hopefully you have come up with the same topic.:hiya.Well,books helps us in a myriad of ways. For some it will be a time killer, some love to read novels. For me,books sometimes change my mood.It helps to develop good fluency over the language.I generally read emotional, motivational books for relaxation, some novels for language command.

    Good topic.Keep going....

    dear bhargavi
    what u said is right
books do help to change mood and
what a way to get command over a language
i've been trying this with my son , though he's doing it with fairy tales and
lion kings, but nontheless, it does help.Harhar
more over for a child , it is a good way to develop concentration during reading

    Nice topic Muzna,
to me wherever I go, books are my best buddies.
Like Bhargavi said, it can change our mood, influence us in a good way if we choose a good book on right time.(reading a book on right time for the situation has more effect).

    dear cheerful
well said, the right book at the right time
a stich in time saves nine,
    if u get a mentor when u require one ,u r lucky
and books can be our mentors too.
many times in my life there has been situations
when i chanced upon a book which helped me in that situation.
i would say divine intervention, but through books.

    Hi

I have been bypassing this thread for quite some days...and now decided to write in here :)

Books....Yes...saying it as my love won't be an exaggeration. I love the smell of the books. Any place my eyes automatically long for a sight of a book shop and heart longing to smell the newness of books.

Oh...that doesn't mean i have read all the books I have with me...some of them are half finished, some yet to start, some done and so on. I do read more than one book in a given time frame. Basically that depends on my mood. Whatever be the mood, it definitely wants to have a book in hand just that the genre varies depending on mood :)

Mostly I read business books (on leadership, management etc.), some history, some literature classics, fiction are very rare (kind of gave up reading fiction).

In short, I should say books are my escape points too! :)

    Cheers
    Jenz

    dear suji
happy to know you too are in this club
true when you say that books bring respite,
i would add that they are like trees , they give and give, when ever you read them,
many of them bring out new meanings to our life every time we read them.
    thanks for joining in here.
