    Hi,

I want a list of activities which will help in reducing the hyperactivity of a 4-5 year child.I have tried out sorting of beads, making the child walk in a line.I want some more activities to make him settle down.

    You can make him:
    1. Practice handwriting
    2. Coloring/painting
    3. He would be going to school by now. Read his lessons

If he is hyperactive and cannot sit down for sometime, then when he starts any activity, make sure he sits and completes it. Start with small activities, which take few mins to complete. Slowly increase the duration.

what exactly do you mean by hyperactivity? Instead of asking your child to settle down, it might be a good idea to increase the amount of physically active play.

I would love to give you some suggestion....Please do let me know if you mean "general over activity" or is it a medically diagnosed "Hyper activity"??
And also if you can brief up about his routine and positives (strengths) and what he enjoys doing in general, I
    Would love to reply accordingly.
    Good Luck!

Many parents, today confuse over active, curious, naughty child to hyper-active. hyper-activity is completely different and should not be confused with over active.

the other thing that i find, is the milestones of these children are great considering the exposure, environment today, but the parents do not have the same amount of patience to tackle them.

sorry if this post feel rude..but for the past few months i have been hearing that my kiddo is hyperactive from many parents.this is not just about you...
add on to that, the pressure, stress.

dh's Grandmom used to say that she used to hold her granddaughter on her back while cooking on a fire. (the open wood fire) and can you think of doing something like that today..the child of today is more curious, more experimental, more adventurous..we love our child to be all this but only as much as we can take??

    sorry

I agree with Shanvy and SLV's posts. I can tell you with my own experience of raising three boys whom I suspected of being hyperactive or having ADHD/ADD and still do with my younger ones. I think it is very important to know the difference as a parent whether our children our just active or need to be medically diagnosed.
If you have not already taken your child to a specialist, reading the information at below links will help you understand ADHD/ADD and help you decide:

There is loads of information on the internet providing this information. I found these links useful as a parent.

    Best regards,

It might be a good idea to let the kids get physical with regards to reducing their hyperactivity, especially when you speak of kids having ADHD. Physical exercises may be done indoors or outside, but an outdoor environment may be better, because it is more stimulating. Indoor exercise may tend to bore children and cause them to lose motivation.
Here are additional ideas for activities that parents may want to try with their ADHD children.
