    Hi

I used to have this kind of problem. I change the yellow onion from bombay onions as it is called here. It's basically the onions we have in India but you can use the shallot onion as well.
I have one question what is the alternave for tomato for the gravy?

    bye

    Hi,

First of all, the answer to your query...It is definitely from the onions. Am not very sure, but I think the yellow onions are the ones that are used in salads as they are not very pungent. That is why our eyes do not water when we chop them and also they do not leave an after taste in the mouth.

While on the chicken curry subject, I would like to share a simple chicken curry recipe from my mum's kitchen. It is my favourite because it can never go wrong:thumbsup and also it is not a very tediuos:confused2: preparation....

Grind together to a smooth paste....
    2 medium onions
    3 meduim tomatoes
    5 cloves garlic
    1/2 inch peice ginger
    1/2 tsp saunf (fennel seeds)
    2 tbsp curd
    15 cashewnuts
    3 green cardamoms
    5 cloves
    small stick of cinnamon

Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot. Add 1/2 tsp jeera. 8 black peppercorns. tej patta. When they splutter, add the ground paste and fry well till oil separates. Add turmeric powder, red chiili pwd (according to taste) and 1 tsp of coriander powder. Add about 1/2 kg chicken cut into peices and saute well till chicken is sealed. Add salt. Add 1 cup water (or according to desired consistency of gravy). Cover and cook on medium till chicken is cooked. Lastly add 1/2 tsp of garam masala powder or curry powder and some crushed kasuri methi. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve with jeera rice.

Hope you will like this preparation.....

Do you fry the onions for a long time? If yes then that causes the sweetness. Just fry it till it becomes light golden color. Try it this way and am sure you will get rid of the sweet taste
