    While all foods contain at least some calories, there are some that are classified as negative calorie foods due to their overall affect on the body. This simply means that these particular foods use more caloric energy to eat and digest than they actually contain to begin with. The calories from these types of foods are more difficult to breakdown and process, making the body work harder to digest them, thus burning more than the food’s original caloric content.
    If we gain weight when we take in more calories than we expend, it only stands to reason that if we take in less calories than we burn, we will then lose weight. Roughly ten percent of our total daily caloric intake is actually used to process and digest the foods that we’ve eaten. If we decrease the calories we ingest, add more negative calorie foods to our diets while increasing our level of physical activity, the result is healthy weight loss and an elevated metabolism.
    A perfect example is a piece of cake that contains roughly 400 calories, but that also uses up 150 of those calories to eat and digest it. This then leaves a net gain of 250 calories, which of course turn into fat. Now, if instead you decided to eat a salad that contained 250 calories, but uses 400 calories to completely digest, you will have actually burned 150 calories simply by eating the salad. If you ate a piece of fruit that contained 100 calories but used up 200 calories worth during the digestion process, you will have burned an extra 100 calories just by eating the fruit.
    The more negative calories that you can incorporate into your diet while maintaining a regular exercise program, the more fat you will ultimately burn. Negative calorie foods should always be prepared fresh and naturally without any added ingredients such as butter or salt, which would only counteract the food’s negative caloric affects. Negative calorie foods generally have a high fiber content, which is essential for dieters as it allows the body to feel fuller longer. Fiber also causes the body to work harder to process and breakdown the foods we’ve eaten.
    Although water isn’t considered a food, ice cubes can be used as a negative calorie source. Water contains no calories at all, but the body must put forth energy to consume the ice, and also to compensate for the decrease in body temperature. Many dieters use frozen sugar-free juice cubes as healthy treats that also require the expenditure of more calories than they actually contain.
    When following a diet rich with negative calorie foods, it’s important to remember that these foods are comprised mostly of water and fiber, and while they are healthy, they also lack key nutrients, proteins, and certain vitamins and minerals that the body needs to thrive.

    Cabbage
    Carrots

    Arizona State University nutrition scientists have discovered that the quantity of vitamin C in the blood stream bears a direct correspondence to the body’s capacity to burn fat as a source of energy. The amount of vitamin C present within the body affects the process of fat oxidation during periods of exercise as well as rest.

    The study conducted by the nutrition researchers from Arizona State University suggests that more vitamin C intake in the form for fresh citrus fruits might facilitate weight loss. It shows that people who consume adequate quantities of vitamin C oxidize 30% more fat while doing normal exercises than individuals with an inadequate quantity of Vitamin C consumption.
    The research however, does not imply that vitamin C can be considered the new remedy for obesity and the new means of causing weight loss. Rather, it establishes that consuming insufficient quantities of vitamin C is liable to hamper any efforts of weight loss.
    Importance of the Research

    It is extremely important to comprehend the consequence of the deficiency of vitamin C as it impacts approximately 15% of adults in the United States. This figure has increased drastically from about 3-5% 25 years ago. The primary reason behind this is said to be increased food processing as vitamin C is destroyed through exposure to heat, light and oxygen.

    Suggestive Measures to Increase Vitamin C in the Blood Stream

    The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamin C in the United States for individuals of 19 years and above is 90 mg for males and 75 mg for females. Considering the fact that the human body cannot generate vitamin C, we must acquire it through our food consumption.
    Approximately 40% of male adults and 38% of female adults of 19 and above do not possess the essential amount stipulated by the RDA. However, sufficient quantities can be readily acquired through extensive varieties of fruits and vegetables such as oranges, kiwifruits, strawberries and grapes which ensure ones health and fitness.

    Does anyone know if it is enough of squeeze the juice of 1 key lime a day on the curry to meet with the day's requirement of Vit-C? What is the quantity of vitamin C in a key lime?

    I actually knew about daily req. of vit. c of person but some -how i have forgotten i will surely tell u after consulting a doctor. I do the same like u, squeezing a lemon in curry or dal. But this is not just enough u need to take some fruits that are rich in vit. c. Like goose berry (Amla), guava, orange, grape fruit (grape fruit has 5 times more vit. c than orange, than we have grapes, apples etc. etc.
    But amla, guava, orange and grpae fruit tops the list. Also these fruits make u look younger, as vit. c is related to aging as well. Make a daily habit of drinking at least one glass of grape fruit and orange juice.
    Another very important thing of grape fruits is it attacks cellulite. Jogging combined with grpae fruit juice daily will reduce cellulite to a larger extent.
    I my another post i will mention the benefits of honey tried and tested by myself.

    One small square of a block of chocolate, about 5 grams worth, contains about 30 calories or 110 kilojoules. Sleeping uses 0.5 calories per minute, so you would have to sleep for an hour, while reading uses 1 calorie per minute, so you would have to read for 30 minutes. Sleeping and reading are obviously not weight loss exercises, but it is interesting information.
    Slow walking, the weight loss exercise we are all advised to start off with, burns 4 calories per minute, as does the weight loss exercise of slow cycling, light gardening, golf, canoeing, horse riding and skating - and it would take 8 minutes to burn off that 30 calories.
    Brisk walking uses 7 calories per minute, as does vacuuming the floors, scrubbing floors, light weight training, swimming, singles tennis, racquet sports like tennis, also football, basket ball, dancing, jazzercise, downhill snow skiing ... these forms of weight loss exercise would take 4 minutes to burn off the calories of that one small square.
    Let's say you really got into real solid exercising to lose weight, like power walking, jogging, vigorous cycling, heavy weight training, solid hard swimming, boxing, cross country skiing, strenuous dancing, climbing stairs, professional tennis, mowing lawns and so on, your body would burn up 10 calories or 40 kilojoules per minute, so it would take 3 minutes of solid weight loss exercise to burn off the calories of 5 grams of chocolate.
    Depending on your weight loss exercise activity, an 80 gram chocolate bar, like cherry ripe, caramello, crunchie, kit kat ... contains over 400 calories each ... and would take 100 minutes of slow walking, or 1 hour of light weight training, or 40 minutes of cross country skiing. It would take your body 400 minutes or 6 hours 40 minutes of reading to burn those same calories, or 800 minutes / 13 hours 20 minutes of sleeping to do the same thing.
    Any way, I think you can see for yourself why I chose to try and lose my weight by means of the weight loss diet program, which can be accessed through one of the links on the left, but ...
    Lets face it, if you have to burn 1000 calories off daily, well, very few people would be willing to spend about 4 hours in a slow walk to do so, nor 2 hours in a brisk walk nor 1.5 hours in a power walk. Realistically, on a daily base, most people would be lucky to stick to a 30 minute weight loss exercise program, but, at the bottom of this page, I have also included a section on motivation for those of you who desire to use the traditional weight loss exercise.
    Also, the Australian federal government has now determined that people require 1 hour or 60 minutes of exercise every day to remain fit and healthy.
    So, what are we to do?

    Fidgeting: The weight loss exercise program that does work, which we can all do more of easily, for permanent weight loss:

    A recent study by James Levine and others at the Mayo Clinic, studied fidgeting - like bouncing leg, twitching pencil or finger tapping. The study was aimed at answering the question " Why do some people gain weight, while others, eating roughly the same foods and doing similar physical activities and similar exercise, stay slim? "
    They found that some slim people burn as much as 800 calories a day fidgeting, thats about 3000 kilojoules. The same as an 8 mile or 13 kilometre a day jog. Obese and overweight persons in comparison tended to burn about 200 calories per day in fidgeting , comparable to walking only about 2 miles or 3 kilometres. Hence fidgeting is perhaps the most important weight loss exercise program there is.
    When ever a muscle is moved or stressed, it burns calories, this in turn reduces the number of calories available for conversion to fat - a very simple, accurate and straight forward exprogramation as to why this weight loss exercise appears to work so well.
    Jensen said. "Clearly the people who are doing little activities during the day are not gaining weight even though they were [ found to be ] eating more. So it looks like the more you do, even in small activities, the more it counts in controlling weight."
    Fidgeting is something we all do from childhood, but we are often trained to sit still and be quiet, whether in the class room or watching television at home. By removing fidgeting from our behavior, by removing this extremely powerful weight loss exercise, those responsible for us, inadvertently sent thousands of us to our graves far earlier than needed. So fidgeting ia a weight loss exercise we may all need to remaster in order for weight loss to be permanent.
    Not surprisingly, research has found that fat people organise their environment to require the least amount of activity. Essentially Fidgeting is a weight loss exercise that is an activity we can learn to do by habit: Without even noticing we are doing it, without even noticing we are exercising
