In this thread, we will stick to only one thing….that is eating less. It is basically a group interaction meant to strengthen each other’s commitment to eat less. As you all know, without reducing the food intake , weight loss is just not possible.

We eat three times a day. Breakfast is the most important food. So, let us not make any cuts in breakfast. Let us continue to eat full stomach breakfast. There are two meals remaining in a day, one is lunch, the other is dinner. Let us make food cuts in lunch and dinner. Whatever we eat in our lunch, let us make it three fourth stomach only.

For example, if one eats one full bowl of rice (along with veg etc), then it should be three fourth bowl only, now. When we finish the lunch, we wont feel the satiety / fullness of stomach. One fourth of the stomach will be empty. The same thing should be done for dinner also.

Let us see how this idea, evolved by me , works. In the last week, from Monday to Sunday, I started noting down whether I could successfully eat three fourth only for all my lunchs and dinners. This is how my last one week has been :

    <table class="MsoTableGrid" style="border-collapse: collapse; border: medium none;" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr style=""> <td style="width: 95.75pt; border: 1pt solid black; padding: 0in 5.4pt;" valign="top" width="128"> Day

    </td> </tr> </tbody></table>
There are two ways of achieving three fourth stomach eating. One , eat a bowl of salad (onion, tomato and cucumbers) with a glass of buttermilk , half an hour or fifteen minutes before your lunch and dinner.
Two, Eat the salad and buttermilk, in between lunch and dinner, when a hunger pang arises. You can also take tea made of light milk and marie biscuits between the lunch and dinner, when hunger pangs strike. As we are eating three fourth stomach only, the hunger pang striking around three / four hours after our lunch is inevitable.

Those who want to join me, in this group effort are most welcome. Make the above chart and do the markings sincerely. When the week ends, we will count the instances, where we have eaten full stomach. For me, this week, three instances of full stomach eating have happened. Next week, I will try to reduce full stomach eating instances’ number, further.
Set backs in this effort, are bound to happen. we can analyse them, through our group interaction.

This is an introspection exercise, meant to improve our own commitment to eat less, with every advancing week…………not to get discouraged by instances of full stomach eating.

Needless to say, exercises also should go hand in hand. As you all know, the ideal recommendation of exercises is 40 minutes / day. In the above column, the past week has been far less than ideal to me, from exercises point of view. Next week, I will try to improve my exercises duration to 40 minutes daily.
we will try, not talking about the individuals’ weights and actual weight lost, in this thread. “Do your duty, leave the results to Nature” is going to be the essence of this thread. We will concentrate on our work…………work……….and work only, NOT results. Continuously fantasizing the results (like losing two kg in this month) and seeing the weight too frequently, will only dilute your commitment.

So, while we stick to the above method, let us make a strong determination, that we will not check weight too frequently. (I check my weight only once in fifteen days)…………..and we will not talk about how many kgs lost etc, in this thread.

Now tell me friends……………who are all, going to join me in this method of improving our individual commitments to stick to less eating and regular exercises ?

    Dear IG,

A very good thread. It sounds like a group therapy and I am sure that participating members will be able to reduce the portion size with continuous encouragement and motivating discussions with the group.

The best part about this plan is that since we eat little less during our normal meals we will tend to feel hungry after 2-3 hours, which is an indication of an active metabolism. Its no secret that a small meal every after 2-3 hours will boost the metabolism and will aid the weight loss.

All the best to all of you.

    regards

    Hi IG,

    Nice thread.
I will too join in. But my strategy is bit different (or may be just putting it in a different way)

I can never go 3/4 stomach. I will record breakfast, lunch and dinner as full stomach as it is pre and post accompanied with salads/soups and buttermilk.

But the idea is to reduce the rice/carbs intake.

    Dear IG,

Thanks so much, Shiva. Your words of encouragement at the beginning itself, is a great boost to me and others. Throughout this thread, we look forward for your support.

The best part about this plan is that since we eat little less during our normal meals we will tend to feel hungry after 2-3 hours, which is an indication of an active metabolism...

You have perfectly understood it, Shiva. We are going to focus on only one thing in this thread.............that is continuing to eat less. (three fourth stomach eating). As you rightly said, if one successfully eats only three fourth stomach, he / she will certainly feel hungry after 2-3 hours. Eating salad with buttermilk or ......... a light tea with marie biscuits at that time, will be the solution.

Stay in touch. Thanks once again..! :)

Re: Eating less, Eating less and Eating less - A Group Effort………Do you want to join

Welcome to the thread, Lakshmi. We are curiously looking forward for your weekly updates , preferably in the above format.

A small correction.......this thread is not a challenge. This is not target oriented. Throughout this thread, we will try not talking about the actual weight lost. The essence of this thread is , "Do your duty and leave the results to Nature".

This thread is an introspection exercise with no challenges and no targets. Continue to interact with us, Lakshmi

The bottomline is.........you may be assuming that what you are eating is already three fourth stomach only. But , in fact you may be eating full stomach. If you really eat three fourth stomach only, then, as Shiva said above, you should get a hunger pang 2-3 hours after the meal. Does it happen to you ?

Welcome, Pavithra. Though your strategy sounds different, you are actually doing three fourth stomach eating only.:)

Because, you are taking salads with buttermilk, before food and after food. That probably you may be taking before the above said hunger pang (striking after 2-3 hours after the meal) strikes.

Let us continue to interact in this focus. If possible, try collecting the weekly data, as above. Thanks.

    Welcome Soumedh,

Yes, individual food items need not be recorded at all. (even if it is recorded , it serves no purpose).

You have to convince yourself that what you are doing three fourth stomach eating, for the two major meals of the day...........and keep a weekly record of the same. Once in a week, we will sit and analyse our individual work......try to address the issues involved like eating out and sweet eating etc,...and try to improve upon for the next week. The specific issues preventing three fourth stomach eating may please be marked in the 'remarks' column.

Starting noting down from today, preferably in the above tabular column form. Thanks.

Re: Eating less, Eating less and Eating less - A Group Effort………Do you want to join

You are so right!!Eating less will not help weight reduction.
Eating less is a medical problem as much as eating more is and may never help in weight loss..Exercising more is no solution too.
I am watching women in their early thirties with sagging skin and tired faces because they are dieting .Unplanned dieting can cause huge problems. We have to first plan where all our nutrients are going to come from to remain healthy and active.

The target should be a healthy life rather than weight loss. Each of us have to have our own correct weight calculated rather than have a table with height and weight for everyone.Consult a good doctor about your weight and what is ideal for you and then set out on a regime. The best way is to plan according to your lifestyle-no one do- it -all will work.

First we have to discount medical problems like thyroid.
Then spread the weight loss program over many months - what exactly goes into our mouths should be recorded in a diary to catch the culprits helping us put on weight. My weight gain was from stress and the sugar I have in my coffee and my consumption of pappads etc-never from my meals which are frugal and in small quantities
Eat many times over the day-not three big meals.Interestingly, when you starve your body ,many millions years recorded in our genes, makes the body think there is a famine and hence the survival factor will take on and store food as fat ( like it does for hibernating animals). So keep sending food at regular intervals.Six meals is a good start. Not to eat when your hunger pangs are eating you up but in a timely manner.Plan nutrients rather than quantities
Eat breakfast-a great heavy one at that. One of the reasons we put on fat is because women do not sit down to a good well planned breakfast. It worked wonders for me when breakfast became a part of my everyday morning routine.Have great energy over the day and can work for eighteen hours non stop.
Walking and swimming( floating and exercising in water) are the best exercises for women. If we are going on the treadmill please make sure you have a trained teacher-otherwise you can cause havoc to your feet.
Tea is excellent when you are dieting-especially green and black tea.Keeping up good fluid levels is also important.Coffee is another excellent drink-we can add less sugar and milk
And another factor on why we put on weight-because we do not eat by the season or the seasonal product. It is firmly believed that nature knows and knew what we should send into our system-today we eat globally and pay for it.When we were young cauliflower was a winter vegetable-we never saw one in summer!! Oranges came in July and tomatoes in plenty in winter.Cucumbers were eaten only in summer.Water melons were never eaten for some reason and then pappayas were also not allowed in large quantities. We never ate chappathis :)))) only rice.We ate our vegetables first and then the rice!!!We made avial in the monsoon season ,had curds in plenty and had a great skin and hair as a by product because of this food.
Our festivals are a great way of seeing what food is good-we make what is available in that season and offer it to God
So my parents at mid eighties and nineties were more healthy than me!!! because they ate intelligently
Lets rediscover eating intelligently and joyously
