I always wondered is it some sort of mantra that people say to nandi's ( placed across lord shiva ) ear? Also that they touch nandi's ears with fingers in a certain way...It would be great if someone out here can shed some light in to it. Thank You.
sillygurl, it is believed that whispering your prayers in the nandi's ears will reach shiva. and some people do close one ear and whisper into the other, as they don't want the wish to leave through the other ear. seeing the shivalingam in the sanctum from inbetween the ears of nandi is also said to be a form of worship as it is believed that shiva is looking at the world from between those ears and head. you always have to ensure you do not stand in between nandi and shiva while praying. there is a procedure to pray to nandi. first touching the feet, then whispering and then going to the back..
Wonderful explanation. Thank you Shanvi :thumbsup I have also heard that since Nandhi is the Gate keeper of Lord Shiva's abode, it is important to seek the blessings of the Nandi before praying to Lord Shiva, something like asking for permission. It is also said that by conveying our prayers to the Nandhi, we request the faithful attendant to inform his master of the same.
thanks for explantion... i have a doubt..hope someone will clear it... which ear we should say our prayer to Nandi? do we have offer some dakshina to nandi after say prayers?
