    Hi there,

This time when I went to India I got lots of red chilli powder and dhaniya powder. I normally store them in the freezer in a air tight plastic bag.
Though the color remains the same, I somehow feel the hotness of chilli powder and smell of the dhaniya powder reduces after a while.

Is there a better way to store them?

    Madhu,

I think it is right the store them in airt tight plastic bags.
But you need to add a pinch of asafoetida in it (the solid one, not the powder!).

    How to store garlic?

    Tips to store garlic...

You can store garlic for close to a month in the fridge in dry airtight plastic bag/box.

This not only increases shelf life, you will also be able to peel the skin much easier.

    Hi ladies,

    Storing tip for ginger:

When ginger is cheaply available in the market, it could be purchased in a large quantity. Peel of the skin of the ginger and grind it in the mixie in slow speed for only one second.
Carefully store it in an airtight container in refrigerator. Could be readily used when preparing curd rice or upuma.

bye and have a happy cooking session.
    :p

    Storing coffee powder

I am facing a big problem in storing coffee powder.

It’s forming a mass and can’t store even for one week.

Can anyone give me tips to avoid this?

I guess most of us are facing this problem…….

Do not use spoons to take coffee powder.

Instead, make two or three openings in the aluminum wrapper on the top of the bottle. Pour the powder through that when needed.
Coffee powder will last long by storing like this.

    I have another suggestion….

Transfer little amount of coffee powder (say for two three days) into a different bottle
and take it from that. After finishing that, refill the bottle. Continue this process…

This also will prevent coffee powder from forming a mass.

    Hi Madrasmami,

That tip for storing ginger was very useful to me as I have to juggle my role between a home maker and a software professional. I would definitely want to store the fresh ginger for later use in making side dishes for chappati. I am always in a hurry to make dishes. So by following the guidelines I could save up some time in kitchen.

Mami, looking forward to such useful tips as to how to prepare delicious dishes in a jiffy.

Bye Mami looking forward to more messages from you.

    When storing pickles for long...

While storing pickles for long time, first wipe the inner surface of the jar/container with a cloth dipped in hot oil.

Then store the pickle. This will help preserving the pickle fresh without any fungus forming in it.

How do I keep off worms from Atta?

    Hi Ladies,

I saw some tips for storing rice keeping off the worms. Similarly I want to know tips for storing Atta.

I normally stock lots of Atta and other flours like Besan and Maida.
Though I keep it in air tight containers, some how worms get into it.

Any tips on how else I can store them?
