    Hi satmini,

    Glad the information helped you. Its unchartered territory for me too, so learning as I go along.

    about the consultanting companies. You can call up anyone, in any state. They place people all over the country. You just have to mention during the conversation that you are not open to relocation. Thats what I do. If you ahve 5 years of exp, talk to eok technologies, fremont. They are doing H1b.

    about DW. Yes , you need some db knowledge , esp SQL. You should have good concepts of DDL,DML etc. You should know how to create db objects etc. DW is about designing data warehouses. Is a huge topic and involves in-depth knowledge of databses. But loading and extracting data from data warehouses is a diff area of specialisation and used diff tools. Tools used in DW are ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) tools. Like Informatica, Data Stage, many others. The other area within DW is BI reporting and analysis. That uses OBIEE. Please do your research before you do any course. It should be aligned with your core competency and should be helpful in getting you a job on H1B. Thats the biggest consideration. If it weren't for H1B, I would prefer to work as an academic planner in some university/party planner/restaurant owner/anything fun :rotfl. I wouldn't miss coding at all !

    CAPM course cost me $1000. Exam fee to PMI was $300, prolly.

    Yes , PMP from India/US is the same. Its a global cert. Online exam , administered by PMI, doesn't matter where in world you are located.

    Thanks prasanna. I will give a call to that consultancy and check. I also read some reviews on them. Do these consultancies ask you to take up training? If you have any tips on what you will check with the consultancy let me know.

    Yes I have around 8 yrs of experience but I am not into development. I am a elearning professional and into project mgmt in that field. Its similar to technical writing/Instructional designing or training content dev. In MA area I find opportunities for this domain. But I thought I can widen my skills some more. Not too sure if DW is the right area. I have knowledge of database concepts and SQL but havent worked in real time in it. Since H1b this year is also kind of not going well...I was planning trip to India and maybe do some courses while I am there. Let me c.

    How abt this consultancy ...is it we pay for the H1B? I saw review that they ask for 3000 dollars.

    @satmini, yes they are charging 3150 for the visa. Almost everyone is charging around 3000. They say the risk is all yours, the company is not willing to take the risk.

    @ruchi - eok tech, fremont offers the course. Its Oracle 10g SQL , Pl/SQL, DW(concepts), Informatica and OBIEE. They have classroom and online training. Online is most prolly through GoToMeeting. If you have attended a webinar you'd know. Basically, they give you a link and an access code. You go to the link and dial that access code to get connected. You can talk to the instructor, see his screen, hear him and other online/classroom attendees. Its either through phone or a head set or headphones+microphone. The mike part is for you to ask questions/talk to instructor. They also give course material (pdf files), install the software on your system (can be done online, that is a part of the course too it seems). The course is 2.5 months , only on weekends, sat and sun 9 AM - 1PM PST(So 10 weekends). The cost for the whole thing is 1400, depending on what you dont what to do, they also lessen the cost. The instructor is good , he is a datawarehouse architect at cisco.

    Please call up and aks the details. You can google them up and call up the training division. Check out the website, it has details about the course. You can ask them about their visa process too.

    Just out of curiosity :-

    Has anyone applied for an H1B visa for FY2010-2011 uptill now ? I am not asking for the name of the company/sponsor they applied through as I get a feeling nobody is quite willing to name their sponsor/company, as hardly any one seems to have given out any names. But what is the response, if any, from USCIS? The news out there is that the visas are under a lot of scrutiny and RFEs are going to be a common thing. Has anyone faced any of that and what did you do about it ?

    @prasanna:
    Seems u r the only one in the site who knows details about most of the consultants :)
    Checked with canvas and techgene but no response from them.Canvas ppl asked me to send my resume after that no response.I took the num from techgen site to call them but no one lifts the call.

    According to USCIS, total 18K H1B cases are filed so far.Filing seems to be going very slow.I think most of the consultancies r scared of strict rules so most of them r still waiting.
    I think this time also the cap wil be open till december.

    Did anyone started marketing for u?or is it too early now?

    @royal,

    the marketing is going to start sometime in august. Or maybe late july.

    Have you tried any of the other consultants like eok etc that I mentioned earlier? I cannot vouch for any as I have not done this before. People who have filed visa last year and have talked to any sponsor/company are the ones who should really be offering some solutions here, not people like me and you who are going for it the first time. anyways, just keep trying and ask them if they will market your resume or not, if yes when they will start and so on. I have been told that you need to keep in touch with them and follow-up regularlya s they forget. Hope you find someone to market your resume and file the visa, you may hae to pay for it though. All the best. Keep in touch. Let me know when you get a job :thumbsup.
