kanyakumari district receipes..aviyal&more dishes

    they roast the rice with out...when it popping switch off the stove...powder it with sugar...if u want you can add coconut grated in this..

    white color powder u said ...that receipe ....

    for sathu maavoo...u have to powder roasted wheat,ragi,cashew,bajra,corn,fried gramdal....

    they use lot of fried gram dal for this....they use pana vellm...for this...
    that's why it looks half white....

    thank you...we mix both kerala & tamilnadu style of cooking....

    we use lot of coconuts..&...onions too...

    mostly keralates ...do't use much onion like tamilans...

    & tn people do't use much coconut....

    we use both

    Hi Shinim Kumar,
    I think what Charal means is Varutha Maavu.
    Its a tedious process i feel.
    Just prepare the flour like what u do for Puttu maavu.
    Either u can powder the same in your mixie or give the same for powdering in mill outside.
    Add grated coconut - My mother puts 1 Pakka Rice she puts 4 big coconuts
    Then u have to roast the rice and coconut together till u find it making some dry noise in the vessel or it is very crispy.
    U shouldn't take ur hand even for a single minute, otherwise it might get burnt.
    Frying is really a tiresome process - my mother does when we/she was young. Long time i too have tasted but still loves the taste.

    yes padmaja you are right....my mom also told me like this only....but one of my neighbor do it in a different way....what i said before...
