Just reminder, Ram Navami is on March 24th, 2010.

As far as I know, recommended neivedhyams are:
    • Paanagam
    • Neer Mor
    • Vada malai (min 12 vadais) for Hanumaar--is optional
Just conveying what we practise. I am guessing there will be some difference based on state and community. Would be cool if fellow ILites could discuss how they celebrate Ram Navami in their families/communities.

    Thanks.

    Hi bambli,

I have no time to give a detailed description so picked this from net and giving you.

Good to celebrate this festival. But it is upto you to fast or not.Take care of your health dear.DOnt fast too much.Already you are on diet so be careful. If you are really interested just fast in the morning alone. For lunch and dinner avoid rice and rice-made recipes.Instead have fruits,sweets,maida-jaggery pancake, juices or something.

The birthday of Lord Rama, the celebrated hero of the famous epic, 'Ramayana', is enthusiastically celebrated on the ninth day of the waxing moon in the month of Chiatra, all over India. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his human incarnation as Rama, the divine ruler of Ayodhya. Celebrations begin with a prayer to the Sun early in the morning. At midday, when Lord Rama is supposed to have been born, a special prayer is performed. People sing devotional songs in praise of Rama and rock, images of him in a cradle to celebrate his birth. Rathyatras or chariot processions of Ram, his wife Seeta, brother Lakshman and devotee Hanuman are held from many temples. People gather in thousands on the banks of the sacred river Sarayu for a dip.

    Bambli,
Usually it starts from 8 days before Ramnavami day. If possible, we can do fasting for 9 days too with one time and only sathvik foods.

If possible for you you can do fasting on Ramnavami day. Else do pooja and eat foods Wo onion and Garlic. Hope its clear to you.

Bambli, already you are in diet. taking medicines too. So no need to fasting. take care of your health da. JMO.
