    Maha Shivrathri is indeed a great one, however every month there is ' masa shivrathri' - although not celebrated in a huge way, some people follow it as a shiv vratam.

    Many people start it from maha shivrathri follow the prescribed procedures i.e., the fast and jagarn, and do the same for every masa (monthly) shiv rathri for a whole year.

    At this present age doing such would be difficult for many people, therefore, they usually go just the maha shivrathri.
