at 4.5 months we started boiled mashed apples for DD
the first day was a teaspoon..... and now she can happily take 5-6 teaspoonfuls:)

i boil apple chunks in very little water, when tender i mash it with spoon and add breastmilk around 1 oz to it. however i see the mash is not perfectly smooth paste though, neither there are any huge chunks!DD doesnt complain since her tongue thrust reflex is gone. but should i consider pureeing in a blender? if so how do i do with such tiny amounts of fruits?
i dont know if its a good idea to make batches n freeze?

also is it a good/bad idea to steam fruits or veggies for her in the microwave? i tried googling and there are mixed reviews!

also any suggestions on what should i serve her nxt?:)

baby loves food just that i wish we had full body length bibs :rotfl

Hi,Although im not experienced here are few of my sugeestions....

U can try Ceralac rice,Easum (i guess my spelling right, i started to give my DS frm 3 mths only one tsps that time).ITS RICE WITH MOONG DHAL.

You can try to mash with Fork rather than spoon,it will b smoother.

I gave my DS,mashed butternut with little bit of milk as first food.
Also they r saying that sweet potatoes r first foods, but it didnt work for my son.

I never tried to freeze baby's foods..,as i dont like the concept.
also im not using microwave cooked foods for my son.its ur personal choice to use it or not.

    hope this helps......S

    Poonam,

Its best to make the food fresh and serve rather than storing for long. Apple I did puree it. Like you did boil and then puree sans skins and add milk. After 6 months the skins can be kept on and then pureed.
I have did not microwave but some of my colleagues do it. Also if you get a pavbhaji masher then you can mash the apple in that but it has to be fine. Else you can puree, you can try if its mashes fine then avoid the mixer.

Paed suggested the following order to be introduced one at a time till 6 months:-

    1) 12 pm - 1 pm - Moong Dal water boiled
    2) 4 - 5 pm - Mashed banana
    3) 8 - 9 am - Nachni porridge
    4) 8-9 pm - Nachni porridge

Instead of Nachni porridge at 8-9 pm, we got wheat sheets from Mangalore, we put them in milk and gave DD.

    All the best!

I used to puree in the blender Poonam and also used the microwave for cooking the apples. I did not add milk though but just gave it as it is. Other first foods - banana, rice and ragi.
