    hi shubag,
as for the gold, you have to buy a book of 25 sheets - either small or big size; and depending on the quality a book of big sheets costs from about rs.1800 to rs.2000+!!!!
gold sheets have become vvvv expensive now adays - so its better to learn it properly and directly from a teacher before we try it out and that also gives you an added advantage of learning how to troubleshoot!
    so all the best!:thumbsup

Thank you so much for quickly responding to my doubt..As you said these have to be learnt under the guidance of a tutor...On this vacation to India will try my best to learn the basics.

    hi rupa,
the sari is essentially gold, the red, white and green colous on it are either camlin drawing inks or you can use posters on the gold - take care you dont use a lot of water as the gold will wash off. whatever u use, pls dont make strokes over already painted areas of gold as this will cause the gold to wash off and you wil be able to see the yellow/pink paper below the gold!
