    Dear Freinds,

I live in an apartment in 3rd floor which has a balcony.I have 10 pots in my balcony so daily whenever I water plants it drains too much of water which is causing disturbance to the people below our floor. Those people always complain which is making our family members tensed..Others have also got plants but not many as us..After I water the plants it is like raining:hide:...
Please help me to solve this issue. Are there some plates available to keep it beneath the pots or any other idea?????????

PS.My plants are not in stand its simply on balcony ground.

    Tina,

i hope your balcony has a drain pipe. if not simply get a hole drilled and connect a pipe to an existing drain line.
if it is difficult to do that, if they are plastic pots, they would have come with the plates. if not, you get these plates in big nurseries.
if they are mud pots, you can use some old plates (SS/aluminium.) that help in draining.

    Hi shanvy,

    Thanks for your suggestion....

No Balcony does not have a drain pipe and its not possible to connect to the drain pipe i think but your idea is really good.I would discuss with other members regarding the drain pipe.

Yes it is plastic pot but didnot come with the plate..

    I have to check it.

    Prettina:

Observe while you water your pots daily. You will find that after watering a certain amount, the water starts leaking from the drain hole at the bottom of the pots. Now readjust the amount of water you give to each potted plant. While initially this observation might take time, it saves you the trouble in the long run of cleaning the water every day (you still would have to throw away the water maybe once a week from the plates below the pots). Also, overwatering the plants will drain away the precious nutrients especially so in pots. So it makes good sense to keep an eye on the amount of water per pot.

    Hope this helps.

    i agree with others.

you are putting too much water thats why it is coming out. my suggestion is to use spray bottle for watering the pots. just the ordinary plastic spray bottle will do. this will prevent you from over watering the plants. spray 5 to 7 shots twice a day like morning and evening. the water will not come out. children love to spray. so they can do the job of watering plant whenever you are busy.

it is always better to keep plates below the pot. you can also use old aluminium foil containers that we get when we buy parcel food from outside. adjust to get the round shape and keep it below the pot. the water will get collected in it.

if at all water comes out then wipe it off immediately with mop or cloth.

Good suggestion by Ananthy. Its nice to water the plants using spray bottles. This will clean the leaves and plants will have a fresh look.
And keep plates under the flower pots/ These are available in all nurseries. Never pour too much of water to plants. Just pouring 1 small mug daily is more than enough.
See the photo in my thread 'My Chinni Garden' so that you will have a clear idea of the plates kept below the pots.
