    surekha,

I would not suggest a road trip if you are not going as a group. it becomes very isolated as you go into the interior.

you get lot of buses that go to salalah. from muscat it is almost 12 hours journey. it is a beautiful place. I have posted photographs of the same in photography section.

i think safa, an ilite as given a wonderful description of her journey to salalah. just go through these links. do plan your journey well.

    Hi Shanvy,

Thanks for the reply..Since I am going 2 travel wid my small kid I feel Car wud b more convenient as v can stop whenever v need....Buses wont b dat very convenient in dat case and also v heard dat there r so many spots in salalah wich r far from each other so mode of travel will also b a problem there....As u have specified will there b any safety issues in the isolated areas???

    Rgds,
    Srka.

    Hi surekha,
As shanvy said even my suggestion also same don't travel alone. If u do continue journey it take more than 20hrs to reach there as u go interior u will be isolated and it is not safe to drive also. u can go by bus.

we went to salalah by road by bus with 14families. every one enjoyed a lot including with kid. that trip was fantastic, even tho we traveled 20hrs nobody were tired.

    Hi..

I have not been to Salalah but went till Musandam in Oman and my suggestion too would be to have a group with you while going by your own car.

    Hi all,

Thanks for ur replies...After cing all of ur replies me and my hubby were in a dynamo whether 2 proceed wid our journey or not.

But since dis was the first time v planned for a long trip v don wan 2 cancel the same...

Lemme brief my experience abt Salalah trip...It was an awesome and unforgettable trip v had. As u all said the way 2 Salalah is a desert but an admirable one. V started from Mussafah at 2.45 in the afternoon and reached Nizwa at 12 in the night. My kind advice is not 2 drive at night from Nizwa to Salalah road as there r no lights till Thumrait. One more thing since the Khareef season is over in Salalah v missed some beat sights there. Trip from Thumrait to Salalah is an excellent one as its thru the mountain and the lights r wonderful at this area at night.

I jus wanted 2 inform u abt the trip as it was not a risky one. I went wid my 10 mths old kid and my husband. If u have confidence in urself u can definitely and shud go for a road trip to salalah as the travel is the highlight in the whole trip. Thot of sharing this information wid the desire dat u all shud enjoy d scenic beauty of dat wonderful place.

    Rgds,
    Srka.
