    Dear music lovers,

    A short intro: I too learnt carnatic music (my mom claims since i was 5 yrs old) as it was a norm in most brahmin families. But I never had the same guru until the last time I went to a teacher... 10 yrs back. My dad was in a transferable job so wherever we went i started all over again. Now looking back i miss not having a guru who taught me not just varnams, keerthanai but also identifying ragas, virutham etc., now 30+ yrs old i want to learn a bit indepth. but alas i live in a country where it's almost impossible to find a carnatic music teacher. If you can guide me with links, lessons, tips etc., i'd try my best to make some effort...

    Latha,

    Nice to know that your interest has revived.

    IF you are looking for actual theory like what is thalam and ragam and the likes, let me see if i can scan DD's Lower grade theory notes for you.

    If it is just to refresh google for Shivkumar's music lesson. (he has been a blessing for me)

    you get Rajeshwari's music lessons.
    last week I picked up one cd of learn CM though not elaborate it discusses the arohanam and avarohanam of the 72 ragas by Charulatha mani

    Do specify will definitely share what i have and know.

    Latha,

    Little busy with DH in town. he left yesterday night. so coming back to routine.

    if you are planning to come down to chennai, i would recommend carnatic book house, behind seetharaman and co (they are law,accounts book sellers) the ambiance of the store plus guidance is good. do search for carnatic book house, chennai. you can shop online too.

    i have been picking up books from this shop only. you get everything from theory, keerthanai's and also translations for other language krithis..one stop shop.

    i love the shop. :hide::hide: .

    carnatic book house you will love the shop. etha edukarathu edha vidarathu (the old maniammal textile ad style) confusion. the older shop had a temple like ambience. they have shifted to the present location. the lady there is very helpful. do try.

    sujatha,

    my ds learns violin. dd learns keyboard western both learn carnatic vocal so dd just uses the same notes what she sings while playing the keyboard, but does some adjustments accordingly. (layman view)

    For my ds, i allow him to practice the regular s r...

    just google for keyless and you will come across lot of notes for film songs. for krithis, let me check out the next time i visit cbh.
