have herd you are taking non trained teachers it's schocking. if the teachers are not trained how can we put our child in the school. i will recomment better you appoint trained teachers.

    ya i have herd.

hi, i know fees is very less because they are taking untrained and non B.ed teachers. i would rather pay more and send my child to school where teachers are quallified and trained.

Re: A new indian international school in Jurong

    Hi Sangeetha3,
Are you sure the teachers are untrained? Because as per my knowledge it is necessary to employ professional teachers with a degree in education if you have to get the permission from the board. And I am sure they have got the provisional permission to start the school. And also I think its not easy to get the work permit in Singapore if you are not qualified. Just coz the fees is less I think we will be wrong in coming to a conclusion that they are employing untrained teachers.

Rashi, after looking at UPS's opinion I don't give it much weight. (UPS has only 1 post total and it is that one) You know the Indian schools have lucrative profit, and fights like this may be happening. To assess each school please talk to any 2 parents directly... :)

    Hi Poss33,

Rashi here. You are right when you said that we should talk to parents directly while assessing a school. I did spoke to many parents where I got different opinions. But finally I could make out that the local schools are much much better than Indian schools. I was little concerned with their usage of Singlish. But then I found that good local schools dont use Singlish. We can successfully avoid our kids from picking up the 'la' accent.
Finally after a lot of survey ( u can call it almost a research :) ) I have got them enrolled in a local school. Both the kids are feeling very comfortable. If you choose a good local school for the kids the transition will be very smooth.Kids can cope up very well with proper help and guidance from parents.

My suggestion for parents who are looking for a good school is that do consider the local schools. But again choose a good local school. There are a lot of cultural differences but then kids can overcome those by the help of parents and teachers.:thumbsup

    Dear All,
I have read all the pposts in this thread and found that the perception of parents for schools changes with their situation. the usual questions and major concerns encountered are

    1. What happen if have to move back to INdia? Our job is not certain andif we have to move back the kids should be able to continue in same grade without loss of year.
Answer - If you are planning to go back some time the indian schools are better than local because the sylabus is entirely different from CBSE/ISCE or regional schools in india.
If your kid is coming from india it is very easy to adjust in any grade(I know kids who joined in primaru 4- seconday 2 in singapore). owever if you are going back to india kids may find it very difficult to adjust sylabus in india (kids goin back in secondary didnt do well)
As many mentioned indian schools are expensive and monthly buget may go upto 1000$. A new school YuvaBharti n jurong is promising. I visited them and found that the staff is passionate.

    2.Culture shock?
Answer- There is no cultue shock for kids. its more for parents thought.
If you are planning to settle down in singapore, job is certain, then local schools are better than indian. kids can adjust very quickly.

    Education system?
Answer- I have found that kids coming from indian schools love local schools because the education system dosent have exams like we had..infact kids dont study before exams, they are still prepared well. Pressure is less as local schools dont have too many subjects. Education is focused. Sylabus is excellent. students are given assignments and not exams..so if u do well for 6 months u get good grades than one exam testing your knowlege.

However one drawback of this system is that students have to decide their career path quite early. There is Primary school leaving exam PSLE, that decides most of the fate..that is too early according to me..students can change stream in secondary 2 or 3 but its too difficult..I feel deciding at this stage is quite early..you get less no. of subjets from secondary 2 and 3 but at the same time you loose the option to choose.. so I think although its too much pressure students should be able to decide after class 10 or 12..

    3.Upbringing?
Answer - If you want your kids to learn more of indian history, geography, civil studies, indian languges, community living, love for indian literature and art, then indian schools are better. Remember you cannot imbibe this at home. It has to come from school. I know one family who tried to teach their kids these values at home but failed..finally when kids went to indian school..they were compelled to study, they enjoyed and scored well too..

I think parents should come out of comfort zone. they should not be deterred with
    1. school is not near? 2. weekend classes for mother toungue? etc I know parents who sed their kids to local schools and take them to hindi school on weekend. no pain-no gain!

If you have any comments/questions, write it here.

    thanks,
    vishal

    Hi Racr,

Sorry for being so late to reply.Ya my kids are really feeling good. But it was only few days (its vacation now) they have spent in their new school. I am hopeful they'll continue feeling comfortable.

Which grades are u looking for ur kids? I personally feel if u r looking for a kindergarten u dont have to worry coz most of them seems to be good.
More than a PAP go for a Montessori kind. They will be really good. Then again look for the one which is near by. Go and insist to sit in a real classroom for a day or two.It will really help you knowing the environment better.Talk to the teachers and some parents.Because the more u interact the better u understand the institution. Then look for the number of attendants, toilet facilities,food,cleanliness.....

Samething with primary too.The more number of feedbacks u get u can know more. You can makeout their academics or teachers by going through some students' home assignment, worksheets, activity papers.......

Dont worry kids are tend to get adjusted very easily. They are more adaptable and flexible than what we assume them to be.

    All the best!:)

Re: A new indian international school in Jurong

I was trying to reply to this post but there was no response. Where did you hear that they are taking non trained teachers ? It can be one of those rumours spreading. Or is it true ? Because, if they are getting most of their teachers from India (as somebody else posted here) then it cannot be non trained teachers. Singapore level of standards must be passed for their employment pass to get approved and also they have to be paid not less than S$2500 I think. If anybody has comparison school by school for the Indian schools and what percentage of teachers are B.Ed trained it will be good to know the choices.

As far as I have heard, all Indian international schools plot against each other. Long back when NPS started there were all kind of rumors but the school is doing well so we have to just wait n watch.
