    Hi Friends,
I have been, so far, a mute spectator to this forum. Quietly absorbing everything that came my way.
But now I feel, I do have a few friends who could help me out.
I have a 6 year old son, who is street smart, very active, socially active, very polite but...he stutters or rather repeats words beginning with aaa, ha. So he tends to get embarassed.
I need to help him and dont know how.
    Can anyone help?

    A very worried mother, Deepali

    Hi,

I am also mostly a silent reader here.

My son had the same problem, so when he was 4 and half took him to a speech therapist, which his school had recommended.

What they do there is, they have certain alphabets and certain words that they ask him to repeat and if he sounds that out correctly, he is fine. According to the therapist, the alphabet "r" is the toughest and they expect the kids to pronounce it correctly only at the age of 7. So my son was fine.

So there is nothing to worry about, you can take your son also but I am sure he is going to be fine.

I think it is just htat some kids take time, so there is nothing to worry about.

My son has just turned 7 now and people sometimes still can't understand him, the reason is,if he is excited he talks too fast,so we ask him to slow down and talk clearly.

So I would say you have to talk to your son and correct him whenever he stammers then he will learn to talk clearly.

Take care and be positive:2thumbsup: ,things will turn out fine.

    Hi,
I think it is common among growing kids, my both kids does that while talking. I spoke to his teacher about this and she mentioned that most of the kids does and nothing worry as my sons were smart and effectively communicating.

    Hi Deepali,
    Welcome to this site.
As others suggested go to a speech therapist, first.
Then at home, talk to him more often. Ask him to repeat simple sentences. Read with him small articles or stories.Even if the question is silly don't bother. Get answer from him. Train him to talk slowly. If he talks slowly I think he would get rid of that problem very soon.
I saw in an Indian channel that a girl who was stuttering a lot was asked by one Doctor,if mother speaks to her constantly, the girl would be alright. she was talking to her literally 24 hours a day and amazingly the girl repeated verses from the literature which are very hard and also some poems ( without stuttering) to the astounded audience. (the girl's mother tried other methods as well).
Don't worry. involve your family members as well.
    take care
