If you are Rhesus negative, it doesn't matter what your wife's is. If it is positive, your baby will be positive, and thus, she won't have problem carrying your babies. If she is negative too, it won't matter, as your baby will also be negative. However, if you have a girl child, she has to be educated that she should be careful if she chooses to have a child with a rhesus positive man. I believe that something needs to be done during her first pregnancy so that her body does not reject a second pregnancy with a rhesus positive baby. I am not sure, but if left untreated, she may have health complications from such a second pregnancy along with rejection of the pregnancy.

    Good luck!

    Raut11,

Since you are a man with Rh negative blood, it doesn't make any difference whether your wife is Rh negative or Rh positive.

Rh negative does make a difference for a woman, whose spouse should also be Rh negative.

Like Confused211 has said, if you and your wife (no matter what the Rh factor) happen to have an Rh negative girl child later on, she must be advised to choose a partner who is also Rh negative.

If an Rh negative woman's partner is Rh positive, she will need to take an injection of Rh immunoglobulins in her first pregnancy and again at delivery and also in the subsequent pregnancies to prevent formation of antibodies to the baby's blood. If these antibodies are formed, there is a danger to the life of the child and the child may need blood transfusions.

If I have really confused you, you can find more information here at the Mayo Clinic website.

    Best wishes.

Re: Ideal blood group for marriage

I think I can answer this question very well since I am that, been there and done that kind.

    I am O-ve and hubby is B +ve.
We have 2 lovely kids both B +ve like dad.

The medical procedure during pregnancy is like this:

Once the doctor comes to know (with routine blood testing done once woman conceives) that the lady whoever is pregnant has negative RH (-ve) then they will ask the husband also to be tested to find out the blood group. If the husband tests comes out as +ve blood group for this lady in her 7th month of pregnancy they do a test called coombs test (that is what they call that test). Nothing to worry. It is a simple blood test. This is done because at that stage the baby's blood group is not known so this is to make sure that if in case the baby's blood group is positive then there is no formation of antibodies in the mother's blood.

Anyway with the medical technology so advanced we have nothing to worry. If you read the medical jargon too much then I guarantee you will get confused and really start getting nervous about this whole thing.

Ok now immediately after delivery the mother is given an injection because during delivery the baby's blood and mother's blood mixes so the mother's body starts making antibodies since it senses something opposite to its blood group entering its body. Inorder to stop the mothers body from making such antibodies this injection is given. Again this is routine one and the doctors do it without us reminding them since they have the blood group with them. My file was marked O -VE in big, red bold letters on every page.

The first baby like anyother newborn baby will have mild juandice but subsequent babies may have a little more. Please recollect I told both my kids are B +ve.
My second baby had juandice for the first week of delivery whereas the first one had for 2-3 days only. Since here in the US there is not abundant sunlight all the time so they sent home a Ultraviolet UV bed with us when we went home. It is a small one the size of your pillow approximately. It has a UV bulb and after feeding I had to put the baby in this and switch on the UV light till he sleeps. After a week she did not need any more. During this entire week the baby was fine like any other newborn. So on that front you dont need to have concern at all.
In India since we have lot of sunlight they may ask to show the baby to sunlight for sometime daily. I did this for my first one as she was born in India. In India too we have this UV beds.

So, nowadays there is absolutely nothing to worry about blood groups when it comes to marriage. Go ahead with you plans without the slightest doubt. :thumbsup

    Very informative post, Adara.

Raut, just a quick comment on Adara's post. In your case, since you are the Rh- one, it won't matter what your wife is. But is she is Rh- too, you'll definitely have to educate any little girls you have. Use Adara's post. Very detailed. Of course, how they treat this may change by the time your little girls will be of childbearing age, but the basics should remain the same, I am guessing.
