    Hi All,

I am subadhra and i moved recently to Boston from India. I am currently staying in Quincy. Any helps and tip regarding Apartment, car etc will be very helpful. I have quite a few queries lined up

    1. Where can i find a good mixer? (Main objectives are to make Dosa / Idli mix, Chutney etc)
    2. Which are good places to shop for Indian groceries
    3. I have a 16 month old baby girl. Where can i find some good toys at low cost
    4. Are there are any community baby care centers in this area
    5. Community libraries / video centers

Thanks for all your help and looking forward to make lots of friends

    Regards
    Subadhra

    Hi SUbhadra,

    Welcome to IL.. :)

Though I wont be able to answer all the questions pertaining to Quincy like community centers and libraries.. I am quite aware that there are few good indian groceries around there. Also, about the appartments, few I hav heard about and are quite good are.. Avalon , High point.. Am sure you would get more on the localites there.. Wait till they reply.

Also, though you get good grinders here in Patel brothers, Waltham... I have ehard friends saying that in NJ , you get for quite cheap.. So, if you visiting NJ.. you must be able to choose from a lott I suppose. But however, you could visit Patel Brothers in Waltham for the same. Though I use my mixer bought from Target.. Any good company's mixer should be good enough for grinding idli batter. You can also try Preethi's mixer if available in Patel ( it was, I had heard ) or from NJ.. so that you can grind smaller quantities too. ( like the typical small and large jar, mixers in India ) Any good mixer from Target, Sears, and home appliances' stores wouldnt cost you more than 4o bucks..

I guess babiesrus is quite a neat shop for kiddos.. You do get stuff in dollar tree etc. But she could put them in her mouth so, wonder how safe the ones from dollar tree are.. But, once they are older, buying colouring books and sketches from there will be worth it.. :)

    Hi Subadhra,
Welcome to IL and to Boston. :thumbsup
I will try to answer some of your questions. As Preethi suggested you can get preethi mixie in Patel Brothers(which is in waltham) or you could wait for some time till you go to New Jersey. I had a mixer from target for 3 years and then I got one from India when I went for vacation.
Toysrus is a nice store where you can get very good toys. It is in Framingham. They usually have a lot of sale nearly all the time. Just go there and take a look. I am sure you will like the shop.
About all the other questions I will ask one of my friends who stayed in Quincy for 2 years.

    Hai Subhadra

Welcome to IL. I live in Quincy too. I think preethi has answered your question regarding grinder and groceries.

Regarding day care centers, there are many around quincy and also good. The best thing i would suggest is to search online and go and have a tour of the day care.

We did it for our daughter. she is 3 and half now.

Thomas crane library is very good. you can become member and lend upto 25 books at a time. They have story time too and lot of other activities for kids. I regularly go there.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Gayathri

:wowThats great. I too live in the same place. But I think we are not supposed to write personal information about where we stay in this forum. So let us think of an idea to meet sometime ( hoping you want to meet me too:biggrin2:). My son is not feeling well. So for the next few days I wont be able to meet you. I dont want your little one to get sick. Take Care and love to your little one.:thumbsup

    Hi Subadra,

South Shore India Market in braintree is only a 5-10 minute drive from Quincy (218 Quincy Ave, Braintree, MA 02184)
    try craigslist
