Ayn Rand

Hi Shanti,
I started reading a ebook on Fountainhead...it was interesting.....but somewhere lost reading it , since it was too much to read on the computer....
have to get hold of a book soon...thx for suggestions on the other books....sounds interesting.....will see if i can find them here and tehn will get back to u.....

I have read The Fountainhead 15 years ago when I was around 15. The beginning of the relationship between Howard and Dominique was pretty shocking for my 15 year traditional Indian sensibilities. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to read the book since attaining mature woman-hood! I enjoyed reading it. I started on Atlas Shrugged but gave it up due to exams and such stuff.
The size of the books are pretty daunting.

ayn rand was god, atlas shrugged was my bible, john galt and howard roark were my heroes when i was in my teens..the line 'who is john galt' was fascinating. but that was then... As i grew up, the pendulum of my thinking has swung from right to left and has stopped somewhere in the centre now.. I dont see too much of 'virtue' in selfishness..
the beauty of books is that they reveal different meanings to u,at different ages and different maturity levels of your life.When u r young, Tolstoi's AnnaKarenina might seem to be just a story of a woman having an extra marital affair, but at forty..u see so much more in it.! It has been a long time since i read ayn rand..maybe i should revisit her..maybe she has something new to say to me..

i was once a great fan of ayn rand.
my first reading was fountainhead and its main character was once even a fantasy hero for me:mrgreen: even my mail id had his name....hihi.
later i read atlas shrugged and felt it was more mature and better (probably my mind had matured more!!)
but there is one piece by ayn which was written in a drama format which had a murder in it.....i am unable to recollect the name....if you know anything about it .....please inform

i had been pondering for a long time about the title of the book and it was nice to finally hit upon it here in this forum.


i had seen many places where a mockery was made about the writings of ayn rand. .....i sort of felt alone in being a person who liked the writings.....now its good to see friends out here with similar ideas.

anyway i do not put too much thought into the philosophy behind the novels but the way in which she writes and moulds her characters.

I read Ayn Rand approx 20 - 25 years ago.. at that time I still remember Fountain Head i finished it and just could not stop talking.. and so read a few others of hers too.. But nowadays maybe after reading so many different books/ authors etc.. dont feel the same way.. Its interesting you wrote about this author
