Dear honeybee, the kerala temples... have also become commercialised. I have been to chottanikkara from my childhood. last year my experience was very bad. the priest at the sanctum says dont put money in the hundi, put it in my thattu for prasadam. before there used to be priest who used to distribute kumkum freely now u have to pay 10rs to just get little chandan and kumkum.

Yes tamilnadu tops the list of commercialisation.

    love,
    shanthi.

    Dear puspa madam.
What U said is true about the commercialisation of temples. This is more in south and Most in TIRUPATHI. In other religions like islam and christianity we cannot find this type of practise. In aMOSQUE even he is a president of the country he has to sit side byside with a cobbler or a scavanger
while doing 'NAMAJ'(prayer to Allah) All men are equal before GOD. In TIRUPATHI especially this type of malicious practises are increasing day by day. when common man is suffering in
a Que for hours together Ministers,VIPs are entering directly
for DHARSAN with their family members and friends. This is all due to the interference of the government. Whreever the
Government's hand is there that Sysrem will loose its sanctity
and injustice will be done to the comman man. But all this
    practice is in south only.
In north the famous VISWESWARATEMPLE at VARANASI
has a free access to everybody ,any number of times. This evil
practice should be eradicated . Then only the blot on Hinduism. People also are foolish that they think that they are higher devotees if they are able to have Dharsan by purchasing a hgher value Ticket or by using their influence.
They feel proud of going to Dharsan by shortcut methods.
Any how this is a topic to be discussed by all the members of
    the ILcommunity.
    Nischel

    increasing day by day.

    Hi Friends,

Interesting discussion going on. We too had a horrible experience in Tirupathi last year. The priests were practically soliciting people by offering archana, ashtothara, kumkum etc.. It is really a disgusting situation indeed.

I agree too, Tirupati is the most commercialised temple i have seen so far... such costly entry tickets... seperate queues for separate classes...

and the when in the Bhavan of the lord, the ladies and men of the management, literally hit you and beat you if you stop to take a look for a second...

It is said that hitting a bhakt is like hitting the god...

and the way they charge u for the smallest of things like kumkum, seems very strange...

The safety aspects in most of the famous temples are questionable. With swelling crowds, I feel most temples are not equipped to handle any emergency. In temples like Tirupathi, pilgrims are made to go through serpentine crowds. The crowd has to pass through several enclosures where there is no safety exit doors. What happens in case of a stampede or someone needing emergency medical attention and is caught in the middle of a long crowd? The general crowd behaviour in India is to push and pull. And a lot of pushing happens in these places. Larger the temples, they seem to require better management.

God is God whether He dwells in the larger temples or the smaller ones or more so in our own homes and hearts.

Dear Mr Nishchal, Naveena, Abha, and Nivedi,
Thank you for airing your views in this thread. Tirupathi Balaji is the favourite and most adored God by almost all people of entire country. Though the temple is barely closed for vistors just for 2/3 hoursin a day, they find it difficult to control the crowd. Some times more than one lakh people visit the temple. Hence they are pushing the people. I also do not like this. I feel they should have an arrangement like escalater type so that they do not have to push the people. It will be moving automatically, but at least people should have a little time to have Darshan. Though there are many Balaji temples, people prefer to go to Tirupathi for they believe that "He is the Kankanta Deivam in this Kaliyuga." Unless people change their mind and worship God where ever they are, there won't be any solution. People who have money or influence take advantage. But there is nodoubt that temples are commercialised.

    Dear Mrs Puspamadam,
At present all of us (ILs) are discussing about what is happening in the temples ( commercialisation). But I think that it is better to discuss the ways and means of reducing this rush and commercialisation. Let the ball roll in the court i.e let the members express their opinions in this matter.
One of my idea is to Fix another IDOL of Balaji of same size and same form, vry near to it and people are allowed to have dharsan at certain hours to that idol.Priests of this temple should be made to work there also by shifts. For both the temples same Prasadam should be made at one place and
distributed to both the devotees equally. if necessary a little etra privelge may be given to devotees.

    Dear Pushpavalli,
I agree with you & we the public are to be partially to be blamed too-Why cannot we stand in a 'Q' like the rest & have a darshan?

I can give you an example of the famous Siddhi Vinayak temple-When i was a kid, we cld walk in anytime & the preist wld smilingly hand us over a fistful of Modaks & say something nice..Everything has changed now every 2nd-3rd celebrity now swears by him-the temple has now become a fortress..

Any temple has a general darshan line & a special darshan line-Yes i agree rules are bent for some people reg entrance into the Sanctum

Walk into any temple & you wil have a priest say oh u need to do a shanti for this planet or that dosha..I prefer praying @ hme now as I can yell out whatever mantras or shlokas i like or even talk to my Boyfriend Gampoo regarding the daily peeves without some one asking me "I sugggest a .... Havan for your probs"

Bottomline: Nearer to a temple-Further away from God

    Cheers,

    Corallux
