pune is not metrocity so there no more shopping places. from last 4-5 yrs new malls and multipexes are taking places. but arround the pune there are so many places to visit. like temples, forts, beaches(konkan), weekend destinations. it is realy a nice city.

am from nasik. from last ten years am living in pune and had visited most of the places in and arround pune. if you could tell me which places do u wish to visit then tell me i can give you information about that.

as you told me that you have visitors from all ages, these are some off the best picnic spots specially for this season. I hope this information will help you to get great enjoyment for this wonderful rainy season.
Malshej Ghat :
This is one of the developing hill station in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace w:st="on">Maharashtra</st1lace>. Malshej Ghat is situated on the borders of Pune , Thane and Ahmednagar districts. A very popular place as it is close to both Pune and Mumbai. Malshej Ghat is vital place in Sahyadri hills and really very attractive when it is under dark clouds and heavy fog. Heavy fog and amazing waterfalls are the spatiality of Malshej Ghat especially in monsoon.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation ( M.T.D.C. ) has its rest house in Malshej. It is situated in hill station's platue between HarishchandraGad and the other hill ranges. A nice view of valleys is one of the major attraction here. One of the beauties here are many waterfalls in the hilly regions. Various waterfalls from small up to the huge ones are really worth to see.
Malshej Ghat is for also famous for dark woods and the animals inside. These animals includes tigers , leopards , rabbits and peacocks etc. But truly a famous place near Malshej Ghat is Khireshwar which is 2/3 kms from rest house. The place is famous for Hemingo birds. These birds comes here every year from <st1lace w:st="on">Siberia</st1lace> between July and September. Its really an amazing view. Through Khireshwar village, one can visit the famous Harishchandragadh also.
it is on the way from Pune to <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Nasik</st1:City></st1lace>. The route to Malshej Ghat is via Alephata, aprox. 120 km from Pune. only you have to careful with boys. Because it is most famous spot for young generation for enjoyment.

Bhimashankar :
Bhimashankar is 128 kms. away from Pune. The route to Bhimashankar is via Manchar. One can go to this place, full of natural beauty and lovely scenery, and be back to Pune in one day. Bhimashankar is a good paradise for nature lovers, trekkers, jungle lovers and bird watchers. It is recommended to visit the place for at least 2/3 days. There is a beautiful <st1laceType w:st="on">temple</st1laceType> of <st1laceName w:st="on">Lord Shiva</st1laceName> which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">India</st1lace></st1:country-region>. Lord Shankara after getting angry, killed Rakshas Tripurasura. The heat generated from their war caused the origin of river Bhima. That is why it is called Bhimashankar.

Various places that could be visited in Bhimashankar are <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Hanuman</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Lake</st1laceType></st1lace>, Gupt Bhimashankar, Origin of River Bhima, Nag Phani, Bombay Point, Sakshi Vinayak and lot more. Bhimashankar is conserve red forest area and wildlife sanctuary where a variety of birds, animals, flowers, plants can be seen. A rare animal "Shekru" can be found in deep woods. Bhimashankar is worth visited for jungle lovers and trekkers as well as for pilgrims.

Mulshi Dam:
Mulshi is to the west of Pune and close to Lonavala as well as Konkan region. Near about 43 km. form Pune.Mulshi dam and the surroundings are full of natural beauties that includes a dam, hilly region of Sahyadri's deep forests and forts like Dhangad and Koraigadh. Water of Mulshi is used for generating electricity. It is one of the major electricity project in <st1lace w:st="on">Maharashtra</st1lace>.
The beauty of Mulshi lake can be observed from 'Valanewadi' - 6 Kms. from Mulshi. Sahyadri is famous for its deadly hills and its beauty. Both the things can be observed here. The hills of Ratnagiri and hill ranges of 'Hattihant' and 'Pagota' are huge ones and terrific. Some of these hills are almost 4000 feet high. There is one platue here popularly known as 'Lavmal'.
Mulshi is very near to Pune and a short trip here can be arranged. One must enjoy the marvelous lake, the dam, forest and hilly region of Mulshi. If you are lucky then you can enjoy boating here as well.
Panshet:
Panshet is one of the popular places near Pune for picnic lovers. Panshet dam was built in late 50's. It became famous in 1961 when the dam collapsed and the entire water grabbed Pune city. Now a days, Panshet is popular because of Water sports here. One can have a nice road to Panshet surrounded by dark green woods. Panshet and Varasgaon dams now a days are Popular because of water sports here that includes Speed Boats and Water Scooters etc.
Truly Mulshi, Panshet and Varasgaon not only are water storages for Pune but also developing as new picnic spots near Pune.
Shivathar Ghal :
Sahyadri is one of the toughest mountains in the world. You can enjoy it's beauty in various places. Shivthar Ghal is one of such places. It is comparatively a small and rare place but must be seen and especially in the rainy season. It is 90 km. from Pune, towards <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Satara</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">City</st1laceType></st1lace>.
It is a place where Samarth Ramdas had written 'Dasbodh'- his famous manuscript. You must be amazing about this place and why Ramdas Swami had chosen this place, for his holy book but you never know it until you enter a small hall where Ramdas Swami used to sit, pray and write.
Shivthar Ghal is an area of silent beauty consists of lush green views of trees, mountains, a big waterfall and a river. Its a place where you can enjoy the clam and quite nature and really concentrate. It took almost 12 years to complete Dasbodh as Ramdas Swami dictated it and Kalyan Swami wrote it down. Now a days, the place is maintained by Shri Samarth Seva Mandal' and 'Sundarmath Seva samiti'.
Shivthar Ghal is a place worth to visit and enjoy the quite beauty of the nature and remember the famous saint in <st1lace w:st="on">Maharashtra</st1lace> - Saint Ramdas and his Dasbodh.

Thoseghar Watter Fall:
Thoseghar is near from Satara and a clam and quite newly developing picnic spot. It is 135 k.m. from pune. Thoseghar is very famous for it's high Waterfalls .. These Waterfalls are very attractive and creates a loud noise in the calm nature. These waterfalls are also accompanied by a clean lake, dark woods and highly hilly region.
You can enjoy various small waterfalls here which are about 15-20 meters high and one of around 500 meters high. Thoseghar is really a wonderful place where you can enjoy the beauty of the nature.
I had visited these places several time and enjoyed. I hope you fell in love in the beauty of these places after visiting them.:2thumbsup:
