    Dear Friends,
This is a story I have written for my grand children after watching the sparrows activities closely during my stay at Newjersey. I have also posted the photos. Please read the story to your children and ask for their comments and post them. Thank you,
    With love,

    Sweetee, Tweetee and cutee

Jackie sparrow and Quekee sparrow were roaming around and searching to find a suitable place to build their nest. They searched many places and at last decided to build their nest in one of the Green Plaza apartment. They thought it suitable because there was a big tree just touching the balcony and a big meadow with full of green grass infested with insects and bugs. There were also dustbins nearby from where they could get food stuff also.
Quekee was expecting to lay eggs in a few days. The apartment was getting Sunlight most of the day and so Jackie and Quekee thought that it would keep their babes warm when they came out of the eggs. They both brought twigs and threads and fiber and built a cozy nest in a creek under the beam of the roof.
After the nest was built Quekee laid one small egg on a Friday. The next day she laid one more egg and on Sunday she laid the third egg. All three days she was only sitting in the nest. Jackie flew out and brought food for her.
Now Jackie and Quekee were taking turns to incubate (sitting on the eggs) for the chicks to grow and come out of the egg.
One fine morning while Jackie was away Queekee could hear the pecking sound from one of the eggs. She waited eagerly and patiently until she saw the head of her new born baby. Then she started helping in breaking the egg shell. The cute little chick turned out to be a baby girl. By this time Jackie returned to the nest. He was happy to see the new chick and they both agreed to give her the name sweetie as she was very sweet looking. That evening to Jackie’s and Quikee’s surprise another chick broke the shell and came out. They were happy to know that sweetee got a brother now. As he was chirping “tweet tweet” they named him tweetee. Quekee said that his eyes and beak resembled Jackie’s features and he was looking chubbier than Sweetee. The following morning the third egg also hatched and out came Sweetee’s and Tweetee’s little sister. So now Tweetee got a younger sister called cutee as she was looking very cute.
Now Jackie and Queekee had to feed three mouths and so constantly they had to look for food. Sometimes they will bring small grains and sometimes small bread particles or even small insects. From dawn to dusk they kept on searching for food and every other minute they were feeding the chicks. If they did not turn for five minutes the chicks will keep on chirping “tweet tweet.”
Tweetee will push back his sisters and try to get food more often. But queweekee would tell him that he should wait for his turn. As Tweetee was healthier and strong he was trying to fly and wanted to explore the world outside the nest.
One morning he just dropped down from the edge of the nest on the floor of the balcony. At first he got frightened as he saw a baby of the apartment sitting in a stroller. The baby Sruthi also was watching curiously without batting an eyelid. Slowly Tweetee walked down to the edge of the balcony and just slide down to a branch of the tree. Then he slowly flapped his tiny wings and tried to jump from one branch to the other. Sweetee and Cutee were watching their brother’s daring adventure. As soon as Jackie and Queekee came to feed them they were dismayed not to find Tweetee. Then Sweetee said that their brother got down from the nest and he flew to the tree. Tweetee who was hiding himself out of fear called out to his parents. They both flew to him and told him to keep perched in the branch until his wings became strong. They told him that he could find insects on the tree for food. On and off they used to feed him also.
They kept feeding Sweetee and Cutee for a few more days till they gained strength to fly. Only Cutee took a little longer to fly. Then all three of them used to fly together with their parents in search of food. In a very short time they learned the art of flying for a long distance. They were a very happy family and after some time sweetee, Tweetee and Cutee found their partners and lived happily ever after.

    Dear Viji,
You have really made my day! You have gone far ahead in nominating the story for finest post. I first told my grandsons to read the story and tell their opinion about posting it in our site. They told me they liked it and then I posted it.
We were constantly watching the chicks which were opening their tiny mouths to be fed and videoed when the mother fed them. I will try to connect the lonk to the video clipping so that others can enjoy.
Thanks a lot for your sweet appreciation,
    Love,
    PS

    Dear Pushpavalli Srinivasan,

What a lovely tale. I shall surely read this to my grandkids. My grandson is sitting just next to me and is doing a puzzle. But I dare not tell him about the story just now as he is sure to take over the computer and you will not get this fb from me!!!:) Thanks to Iyerviji's nomination of this post to FP, I had the pleasure of reading about your happy bird family.

As a matter of fact, I too planned on writing about what was supposed to be an exciting and happy story of the bird family which decided to nest and lay eggs in our rose bush which was leaning against our family room window. There I was photographing the nest for our forum. The happy couple, the freshly laid eggs and even the very first hatched chick and its mom-dad feeding it. But then, it was not to be. Wild winds swayed the bush so badly that one morning we discovered the dead chick on the grass and an egg was not to be seen. Soon the nest was abandoned and one last egg never hatched! All in all, a very sad story. My grandkids and all of us were really sad. Both my hubby and I felt like we lost someone dear. I deleted the pictures . I think the birds were NJ cardinals, red breasted, crowned and so pretty. Well, your little story brought back the sad memories of an earlier month.

    L, Kamla

    Dear Kamla,
We really did enjoy watching the cute chicks with shining eyes and the parents feeding them in turns. As I mentioned one morning one of the chicks jumed down when we were sitting in the balcony. We thought it might have fell down accidentally, but it started walking slowly up to the edge of the balcony and then slided down the branch of the tree. The other two chicks were still in the nest when we left for Minneapolis.

It is really disheartening to hear about the sad story of your bird family.
Thanks for peeping in and hope that your grandson enjoyed the story.
    Love,
    PS
