    Dear C

Made cold coffee yesterday with coffee cubes, skim milk cubes and splenda( sugar substitute ). Though, I never change your recipe, since I very badly wanted to try the coffee and my MIL takes splenda, did this one change. The resultant coffee was what to say, coffee...licious. It was so smooth and creamy. This is bound to be a repeat.....!

I also noted your tips on dhal where you said you now pressure cook dhal directly. Tried that today and had dhal ready in less than 15 minutes flat. I did not even soak the dhal. It just seemed magical. Many thanks for this tip.

Laxmi's FB reminds me of my caramel popcorn attempt, where I goofed up the pop-corn. So, it is in my list of re-trial along with cinnamon rolls.

    -Gayathri.

Thanks, Gayathri. Sugar-substitute does not make much difference.
Now, I cook dhals only in the direct ppan method - it is just soft!!
Popcorn does give trouble at times, no denying it!!

    dearest chitra mami

thx for the comforting words. kids being sick really bring all our enthusiasm down.
i forgot to say a few things.. two days ago i tried the unniappam with lapsi rava, somehow it didnt puff up (may be i shud have fermented the batter a little), the taste and smell was divine, just as how my house would earlier when my mom made these but it was more like godumai dosai than appam (i was expecting to see the appam with holes inside) or can i add a bit of fruit salt to the batter just before doing it ?

the masal seeyan was on the other hand, all and more i had imagined it would be. the extra urad dal in the ratio makes it soo fluffy and white and spongy. we just ate without any side dishes.

yest i had made the p parupu rasam. it broke my prejudice against using p parupu for rasams, very tangy and light and yummy.

ps: sigmabeta looks nice and bright. i wish i could make another trip to come and visit u.

dal tip? where and how did I miss that? Please Chithramma/gayathri kindly repeat....

    Chithramma,

We'll be back on Sunday evening. I'm going to make Mac-cheese for kids now and channa dal-cucumber for us. Actually thought of making mooli paratha for vazhi but have mint rasam and knol-khol koottu left-over from lunch. so will make use of those. bye...

    Dear S-s,
Holes will form only if fermented (but in which case, it will drink oil). So, you can add a little frui salt to get the orous texture.
Good that you are coming out of some prejudices - we all have quite a few on a "regular basis'!!
You are welcome home any time & any no: of times too!
    Love,
    chithra.
