So..I have seen many parents here in US giving Multivit for kids...I'm not sure though whether or not I should give that to my kid...but recently I doubt that her calcium intake is not upto the daily requirement...

So what do you suggest ladies? Are there multivit with added calcium available over the counter? Also anything harmful if suppose my kid takes cacium more than the required level?

    Please chime in Ladies............

    Hello,
    NO, Please NO.
Don't give all those things until doctor advises.
Its not good to start all those artificial things and they might not have the capacity to digest extra vitamins.
It is always better to give thru natural foods like fruits, veggies, milk, cheese, yogurt etc.

Hi all, got a question ~ as Riya's tastes and preferences change, I worry that she may not be getting a whole, balanced diet during the day. I am not even sure if I should be worried about that, but with her allergies, I am now thinking if it will be beneficial to give her some kind of multivitamin or a nutrition supplement.

I found some info on Pediasure (online), but I am not too keen on that one as they come in flavors (artificial and natural flavors, it says on the website), and also with 18 gms. of sugar, it won't be my first choice.

So, my question is what kind of supplement or multi vitamin, if any, do you give your toddler? For some reason, I have a feeling that if I ask the pediatrician, she's going to recommend either Pediasure or Gummi bear vitamins. :-D

    Raj,
Even i wonder sometimes.because Yash has zero milk intake.I sneak in calcium rich food every day.It is better to evaluate which nutrient she may lack and give that particular one.Do not go for OTC,check with the paediatrician, though you can guess what her suggestion would be..

Hmm, Supriya, I may ask our allergist if he recommends anything. Thanks! Just curious though, do you know how a pedi would evaluate what nutrients are missing? a blood test?

Also, just wondering if just one serving of recommended multi vitamin can be considered "overdose" if the toddler gets enough nutrition from other food sources? Any ideas anyone?

No Raj,i did not mean that way.Just assessing from Riya's diet chart you may find out what she misses. What is your main concern?

Oh, I know you didn't mean it any other way, Supriya,:) i am just asking questions to clarify the doubts I have. My main concern is what if she's not getting enough vitamins and minerals from what she eats everyday. It's difficult to keep a food chart and follow it religiously with a toddler (and adults too!). So a multi vitamin may "cover" whatever, if anything, she's lacking in her daily diet.
