    hi mohana,

i read your mail for cleaning silver and brass items. here is the method i follow to clean them.

for cleaning Silver : boil water in a big vessel . cut aluminium foil in to very small pieces add it to boiling water . now switch off the gas and add around 50g of baking soda and slowly add the silver items to the vessel . leave it for 10 mins . now you take the silver items out and take little soap and clean softly with your hands. this method is showed by mallika badrinath and it works out well for me.

for cleaning brass : take citric acid and mix it with any vessel cleaning liquid (lime based) and clean with scotchbrite. without straining your hands you can clean brass items in a minute in this way . ( this is my own invention).

    luv
    lal

    Dear Ami
I use tamarind pulp to clean brass items. for silver items i used to boil water and squeeze lime and immerse silver items and continue boiling for 5 mins.
then scrub and wash its simple and works well.

    Hi all ,

I have done this one. and it always brings out the silver as new as when i bought.. When you use polish and all you are removing a little of the silver . In this method, you are reversing a chemical reaction thus not losing the silver..what with silver costing so much today..who will want to lose...

    Re: Dear Mohana

Try using a lot of salt, moistened with lemon or lime juice. Wear rubber gloves, cut the lemon or lime in half, dip the cut side into the salt and scrub. Rinse well and dry. Clean and shiny! I wear gloves for all polishing work as many polishes are very hard on the skin. Another unexpected cleaner for copper and brass is bottled American ketchup. Spread it on the metal, let sit for 10 to 15 min., then scrub off.

    Hi ,

Can you please tell me how to clean an "oily/sticky" brass lamp ?
I've been using Tamarind + salt +hot water. Soak it for few mins , then scrub with scotch brite . Wipe it clean then apply brasso for polished effect.
But eventually the scoth brite becomes so sticky by the end of cleaning i need to throw it away.

Is there any other neat way to clean a sticky lamp ?
