How many are wearing Thali/Mangalsutra ?

I still wear my thaali(which is heavy Iyengar one),metti and even bindi.I don't find anything akward with all these and yes,I wear jeans too and shoes too.My metti is a thin one and so hides inside any shoe without any problem.My thaali is always inside my shirt(even when I wear saree,it is inside as per our custom),so no one gets to see it anyway.My chain is a thick one but did not find any problems with it while wearing tops and jeans.Frankly(pls don't get me wrong) I don't understand why it is so difficult for some women to wear the thaali at all times.

 

I agree with Sunitha totally.What is inconvenience in wearing Thali and Jeans.Don't do things because your friends are doing.
I wear Thali, Metti, Kolusu and Bhindi to work .

I wear my thali,toe rings everyday. Yes, When I feel like I do remove it.Not becoz everybody else do it but becoz of irritation due to extreme heat.That only lasts a few days or a month maximum.My husband also protests sometimes when I remove it. But other than that, I dont remove it. The only thing I dont wear is bindi. I wasnt wearing it even in India.But with sarees or salwar I go back to bindi's.
I dont find it any different wearing thali with any shirts or jeans here. It sits inside the shirt and as Sunitha said hardly seen. I dont think it will look different wearing/not wearing with any clothes worn here in US.Of course the sindoor phase wore off very soon for me and I dont put it.

 

I too wear thali, metti and bindi whichever outfit I wear be it a very western one.
I never remove my thali. But its a not so thick chain with a small mangalyam-no other extra fitting like kaasu gundu and all. So I dont feel anything uncomfortable wearing it.
And toe rings I love them- have soo many varieties so keep changing designs.
Bindi- yes always but a small one.
I dont wear bangles though!!

 

did we women ever wonder why do we need to wear the certificate of marriage and why not men need to wear even one tiny peice of jewellry in indian culture after marriage.wearing thali or mangalsutra doesnt make any women more good wife than the one not wearing it .if you observe it it will be women (mil,mom,sil )who would advice or force women to wear any symbol (mangalsutra,thali,bindi etc)if she is married ...why ?
if you are comfortable and happy it is ok .
i personally believe wwhen you wear a western out fit it looks good if you wear ethinic things minimum with it .

 

I always wear mangalasutra but my is a short one. I wear big one only when I wear saree. I don't wear the toe ring as i was very uncomfortable my husband did not bother about it. About bangles and Bindi I wear them when I wear salwar or saree. In my Family nobody is bothered may be they think atleast I wear Mangalasutra.

My DH is also comfortable me wearing or removing thali based on dress.
He himself used to tell me in the starting for few dresses and nights to remove it and be comfortable. so chill...

 

I always were mine like sunita ,an iyengar one, the only time i take out is when i have an oil bath
I dont feel any irritation, infact it is not very heavy, I belong to the indian army community where there is a melange of cultures, If at all it is out when i wear a dress, it arouses an kitna sundar hai.... from the other ladies, I have been in deserts, sweating away to glory in uniform but with my mangalyam on me, esp the one we iyengars wear with the sankam, chakra and tirunamam, i always felt a sense of security.

Both Dh and me just wear our wedding rings.

If in India i wear a simple black beads chain... which goes with all western or Indian outfits.

My In-laws or DH never complained abt it... I guess its abt one's comfort. :thumbsup
