Vandana, very timely thread. I only hope the ladies concerned would do something about the abuse instead of taking it all silently.

Tulasi - Can't thank you enough for your efforts in collecting the information needed. These might be very helpful for someone who badly needs support.

    Geetha.

I was watching 'Good Morning America' on ABC news this morning and they were talking about how domestic violence and abuse has become so common in these tough economic times..I believe 1 out of 3 american women report domestic abuse at one point or the other in their lives. The statistics are really shocking ...The news also mentioned about www.safehorizon.com, a helpline for all the women out here who need help.
I thought this info. might be helpful for women in need and who are getting abused everyday!!

P.S: Moderators, I hope it is o.k to post an external website reference here. I request not to delete the reference so as to help other women in need. Thank you

    Hi everyone,

I was thinking about the same thing today. I am glad to find others who are also passionate about lending a hand to other women. Can we add a tab call HELPLINE in addition to the above five tabs (Home, Forum, Blogs, etc). That way it can be found easily by women who are in need of help.

I think that this is a serious issue for Indian Women. There are so many helpless women crying for help. They are treated lower than men if not as their slave. I am not saying that men are bad, instead it has more to do with the way society bring them up . From a very young age, they watch how their mother and father live together as well as other family in society treat women and just pick it up. Another factor that plays a role in women being ill treated is that they are not financially independent.

How about establishing something to help empower women in the Indian Culture so that they are no longer being treated as a slave or something lower than men. It haunts me when I read about the situation that Indian women have to live with everyday of their life.

    Hi,

I found this in Bangalore and I had heard about the organisation's support to DV. Though I cannot vouch for it.. I feel you must contact them before something more worse happens to you and your kid.

    Banuma,

Are you working? I feel very sad for you.

This is adultery and you have proof. Never disclose that you have proof to no one (including the police, NGO's - In india it's all corrupted and they can manipulate the situation to their wish) until you make the final decision.

Do you have family apart from parents.. extended ones?? Can they support you initially? If you can, please start the divorce process immediately (that is if you dont want to live with him anymore :) your decision)

Preethi.. do you think they take up adultery cases as well?? there is no physical violence done here to the wife right???

There has been DV in her case too .. She has mentioned it in her post .. So, instead of going to the police she can take the NGOs help.
