hi i dont know the other names of tis fruit....may be u can check this site, cud understand what it is.... http://www.kamat.com/kalranga/veg/fruits/13123.htm
There are two varities in bimbal or karmbal .One is the smooth one , of which leela has given the photograph. Other one is ridged one ...easily available in India. These sour fruits are used to make pickle and used in curries to give sour taste . The ridged one is available in the grocery shop in the US . This is called STAR FRUIT. dear leea, have you tried the recipe with this ridged bimbal? As it is of the same family I am going to try it with the star fruit. The smooth one is not available here.
u r right latha..there r 2 varities....did'nt try the ridged one for this juice...if u tried it wud be better if u let me know how it tastes....i think the ridged one gets some aftertaste nd after all it is not as juicy as the smooth one...anyways nice to hear u r gonig to giv a try....dont forget to refrigerate before use.....
hi leela The one we get here is much much bigger than the one we get in India. Its about 5" length and 2" wide and juicy aswell. I will certainly give my FB after trial.
hi friends another tip :idea...... u can add 4or5 mint leaves to grind along wth the bimbal fruit so that it wud be more tastier....one of my cousin gave this tip nd just then i did .....its really delicious..... will giv u 2 more bimbal juice recipies very shortly....:cheers
