    Hi Madhu,
Heat a cup of water for a minute in the microwave. The steam from the water makes the interior of the microwave moist. Then wipe it out with a piece of paper towel. When you heat the water if you place a piece of lemon in the water it helps the microwave smells fresh. Hope this helps.

    Hi Madhu,

Couple more ways of cleaning the microwave...

Take a cup of warm water and add 1-2 table spoon on Baking soda and make a solution. Wipe the interior with this solution

Second is to use vinegar: Take a microwave safe cup full of water, add 1 table spoon on vinegar and 2-3 drops of soap liquid. Heat at high for 3-4 minutes and let it stand for 15 minutes. Then wipe the interior with a damp cloth or sponge. The steam from water along with vinegar will take out the stains.

( Warning: As a general rule, please do not superheat fluids in microwave for longer period of time as the liquid might explode when we try to take it out. Leave it to cool for sometime).

    Regards,
    Radha

All the hard-working, clever, clean ILites have given great tips on cleaning the inside of the microwave. I am just a little more keen on avoiding work, so even though I like everything to be clean, I tend to focus on prevention of stains rather than cleaning up afterwards.

So, I just wanted to add that your work will be greatly reduced by using a see-through, plastic cover called a "Microwave Food Cover". This is a great invention - it has a vent at the top for steam to escape, and it allows you to heat food (even those curries or sauces that tend to splatter the most) without the mess. All you do is place the dome-shaped plastic cover over the plate or bowl you're microwaving.

Best of all, the cover then goes into the dishwasher and is therefore very easy to clean. This means you can get away with wiping or steaming the inside of your microwave far less often, and since no food debris is building up on the inside, the stains do not get more and more "baked in" with each subsequent use between cleans.

I've saved the best news for last, which is that these covers can be bought for only $2-$3 at most stores that sell household goods. I picked up this trick from my mother, and so when I got married and started using a microwave in my own kitchen, I've always used a microwave cover as well. It will become an indispensable, labour-saving device in your kitchen, as it is in mine!
