I have been lighting the lamp with Kamakshi vilakku which has provision only for 1 wick. I do not follow a particular time to light the lamp.It is very inconvenient for me to follow a specific time daily basis since i don`t have a separate pooja room.It is attached to my kitchen. So when the cook & the maid are working there,i cannot do my pooja.
But once i have a bath,i light the lamp & do pooja.Chanting particular shlokas are done in a different room also.
In my mind,i do not feel anything wrong with that.
If God wanted me to do prayers in front of the altar,i would have had a separate alter!:)

    Hi,
One more fact about lighting the lamp:

Preferable use a new wick or thiri for each day. Wipe the blackend end of the lamp with a tissue paper. This way the lamp lit will literally glow like a pearl and will glow for a long time.

Also you can chant deepa sthothram or vilakke thiru vilakke while lighting the lamp.

    Dear Priya,

Very good information, as far as I know lime lamp is used for Durga Devi during raghu kalam I have seen this in all temples. New information, you have given, can you be more specific like for Sarabeshwarar which day and time suitable and for Prathingara Devi,

    Regards,
