Sorry this may be a very simplistic thing.. What deities pictures, figures are compulsory in the puja room and how do you adorn them? If you have figures/statues, do you need to perform special pooja for those? Thank you.
Dear Madam Chitra, I too have the same query regarding the deities to keep in puja room. I have the following dieties in my pooja cabinet. Siva and parvathy - 5cm height Perumal - approx. 8 cm Annapoorni - 6 cm Nag alone - 6 cm Nag + nandi + lingam- 2 cm each Green lingam alone - 4 cm rasamani - vinayagar + lingam + nandi lakshmi - in silver and brass vinayagar - silver Hanumar - silver - 13 cm & 4 cm. These are gifted to me. Kindly advise how to perform pooja in a proper way. regards, Bhuvan
Hi Parelk2, U can put any diety pictures or idols in puja room.Diety photos must be pleasent not with anger (Some shakthi photos with ugra rupam). If u want to put idols, idol must not be longer than ur thumb size.no need to perform any special puja.Only thing u need to do is light deep everyday, agarbathi and offer naivedyam. Offering Naivedyam is very important. If u offer Nivedana regularly that is enough to acquire gods blessings.Offer in such a way as u r offering to ur kids. Can u be without feeding ur kid altleast one day? the same way it must be. Sandy
Dear Madam Sandy, Thanks for your advise. I am keeping every day morning cooked rice with little ghee as naivediyam in a small cup in the pooja room.. You have mentioned that all deities should be our thumb size only, but I have Hanumar nearly 14 cm height holding his weapon on the shoulder in standing posture. Another kamadhenu, kindly advise what to do can I keep it in any temple or can I keep idols in seperate box inside the cupboard. Awaiting for your response. Regards, Bhuvan
Hi Bhuvan, Do you have hanuman picture or Idol which is of 14 cms height? I heard that idols must not be more than our thumb size.it can be longer than thumb size but the thing is u need to do abhishekam and naivedyam regulaly and purely which we cannot perform every day.so u can ask a priest who knows very well about our customs and practices and clarify.if the priest tell that u shuldnt, then u can give it in a temple. Regarding the Naivedyam u r offering,it must not be rice alone with ghee.If u r giving rice as prasadam it must be with some kind of dal with ghee.so what u can do is while cooking for god put 4-5 (little) dal seeds along with rice, and u can offer this with ghee. Are we able to eat rice alone without any kind of dal or curry? In the same way
Dear Madam Sandy, Thanks for your advise, I follow this regularly. I have idol of 14 cm and I am doing only on friday abishegam, let me take my priest advise also and I will do accordingly. Regards, Bhuvan
Hello ladies, I know that you all are trying to do things which will please God by doing the puja's in a right way or even putting the right photo in the right place. Different vastu's and different laws. Though I cannot help you with how to do the rituals but I think we have never noticed the part of thing I am talking about. Have we ever thought if god is in our heart rather than only in the Puja room? Do we thank him for all that he has done and given us or are we just chanting the shlokas and doing our duty? Are we certain that God is pleased with us? or is he just pleased with the amount of money we spend on the room and diya's.? The foremost thing is "GOD is Holy and those who worship Him must be Holy" It seems to be difficult but this is the fact.
Hi Bhuvan, I have heard that we should not keep photo of Lord Shiva at home. I am not very sure. Please get it confirmed from other expert ILs. Thanks Sai Nirav
Hello everyone, My husband has been doing daily puja (when he is in station) to idols of Ganesa, Krishna and Lakshmi after taking Upadesa and learning Purusha suktam from his Guru. As per his advise, there is no restriction on the size of the idol / photo to be used for puja. The Lord can be invoked even in a lump of turmeric, as done for Ganesa pujas. For pujas at home, where regularity may not be possible, the main aspect to be followed is that after the puja is over, we have to "send back" the diety which are invoked in the beginning. In sanskrit terms, in the beginning, he chants "aavahayaami" to invoke the Lord in the respective idols / photo. At the end, he chants "yathaa sthaanam pratishtaapayaami" and also adds "shobhanaarthe shubhamurhurte dine dine punaraagamanayacha", which means please come back daily as well as on auspicious occasions. In temples, this step is not done since "praana pratishta" i.e. life is invoked and regular puja is done three times daily, hence the Lord always remains invoked. Hope this helps. Bindu
