    Hi All,
I always used to wonder what all a girl has to think while chossing a life partner.. Let me aks my question in 2 ways.
    1. What should be her expecattion in a arranged marriage in choosing a partner.
    2. In case of a love marriage what is the bare min expectation. Pl agree to the point that a rice educated girl falling in love with a auto driver/petty shop owner will happen only in movies :)

    Kindly pour in your thoughts..

Well I had a arranged marriage, thought we used to talk regularly.. but trust me no Expectations wat so ever frm him.. coz i hadly knew him... so for me it worked out well as we got know each other more as the days went by.. n till today we are still knowing each other.. its being 2yrs now... I'm loving it :)

The only thing i can comment on love marriage is you would be disappointed when your expectations are not met... coz you know the person.. so you will have even more expectations frm him after marriage..
(i could be wrg as well)

Well I am married to a great husband but it always comes to my mind that when my daughter gets married apart from checking the family and background I wish I could make a questionnaire and give it to the guy to evaluate whether he is right for my daughter or not .I have come up with one Perhaps you guys can provide more inputs into it .Practically I don’t know whether after 20+ years we will need this but just to enjoy .Ha ha …Probably this will scare the guy away.
    1. what do you expect from your wife/this marriage (This will be a subjective kind of question .but if his answer reflects that he is marrying to keep his parents happy ,or marrying so that some one can take care of his parents or even include the word “parents “ He is rejected .
Here I would also like to tell you guys I had asked the same question to my hubby and he said I expect her to be happy if she is happy I will be happy .
2.who should more important for a Girl after her marriage

    b.Husbands Family(parents ,siblings)
    c.Wifes Family(parents ,siblings)
    d. a and b
    e.a and c

3.Do you think a Boy should support his parents Financially
    a.yes b.no
    4. Do you think a girl should support her parents Financially
    a.yes b.no
5.Would you respect and treat your wifes parents the same way as you expect her to treat yours?
6.Do you think your wife should dress in certain way after marriage .If yes then do you think that you should also dress in a certain way after marriage .

Well when i was getting married...i had expectations and there was 1 which i wanted most was...i always expected the guy to had courage and stand up for me.I wanted a bold and firm on his decisions not just live life with the flow.I wanted a guy who could fight for me with the whole world. And my husband did that as everyone was against our marriage. He passed all the obstacle.I am so proud of him even till today and i respect him. When i think about that...i love him more and more.Touchwood!!
About other expectations....i discussed with him before marriage.Like i wanted him to help me in kitchen. And he told me that he wanted me to live with his parents after marriage. And i knew his mother behaviour...it was intolerable before marriage also...so i made it clear that i don't want to and i don't think i would be able to adjust with her.He convinced me to live with them. But at least now if anything happen he take it as his responsibility and stand up for me because he promised me that time that he will always be with me .and my happiness was important to him.
well i also work hard to do more that just fulfilling his expectations.
He also discussed his expectations to me before marriage...like about my views about career and family....etc.

    Hi Guys,
Nice to see the replies.. I jus wanted to discuss about my friends story who had a love marriage.. she and her DH had a age gap of more than 9 years.. It started as a infactuation(for her) ( thg she is not sure still now) since they started liking each other when she was 20. He was matured enuf and found that she met his expectation so does her family. he asked her about her expectation.. For her it seemed as thg she didnt hav any expectation but just wanted to be with him.. since she hardly dreamt abt marriage tht time.. wa too young for that.. those were the days whn she had not even graduated out of her college. they were going around for 2 years, after which both their parents agreed and got married. The 2 yrs of Love.. they lots of time for each other.. used to meet most atleast 4 days a week and used to talk and share with each other so much.. His family comprises of his mom(widow) and 2 sisters. 1st one(wrkg) is married and stays near to her house and the second one is to be married(not wrkg). her MIL is pretty old and so she wants one person to be with her for mental support, so she had made her second daughter to be @ home and not to go for work. After marriage she felt she never got private time with her DH unless after 11:00 pm whn they used to go to bed. her married SIL will be at her home all evenings till late night with her kid and ll leave for her home when her husband comes home( he normally comes only at 12) so her MIL would want to sit in the center surrounded by his son and daughters and DIL and chit chat all stories every day. She hardly minds about any thing else apart from eating nicely and spending nicely. My friend started to hate this behaviour. Every single day every body used to sit together at home and gossip.. Though her MIL does not ask her to do this work and that my frd some how hated her coz she was too much possesive of her son and feels that if he goes to her parents house often, he ll not look after his sis properly ( he only need to get her 2nd SIL married) He hardly saves any thg inspite he earns quite high. The 2 ladies in the house just spend too much on every thg.. these never think about tomo. So does her DH. their logic is live life today to the fullest, for tomo may never dawn.
She lost the private time with her husband. her DH sensed this and used to come and pick her from off and take her out 1 or 2 days a week. But @ home this joint family atmosphere dint make her feel that it was our home..She was not able to do house keeping as per her wish.. she is working.. since then the kitchen will be used by her SIL s and MIL, when she enters it ll be messed up..
she fought with her DH regarding this and he had told that she didnt like her SIL and MIL to the whole family and relative circle. she finds it very diffcult to face the SIL who even now continue to stay her most of the time (of course not as earlier), they used to critise her indirectly and her DH will never beleive it. He has great beleif in them and tell her that she should adjust.
her DH who was loving her so much turned away from her after she had told about her dislikes. He says he s not able to view her as a wife and she fights like a LKG kid. more over the great age gap between us is reactin now.. his likes and dislikes and philosophies in life seems to be way different from mine.. but it all did converge b4 marriage.. every thg seems to be sour now. At one point of time what ever we speak ends in fight.. n if fight the whole family will know :( she felt very much depressed and came out of the house.. We dint speak after that for nearly 6 months. Now our family members are trying to patch us up. my frd's DH says that it will take more time for him to come out from the fact that she always quarelled and he cannot behave like a loving DH at present, she cannot go and live in the joint family again where a DH is not even able to talk with his wife and care for her
she now has so many expectation from her husband NOW after seeing and hearing about others life.. she now feels that she shouldnt have chossen him.. I dunno what to advise her:( she feela that she should have obeyed her parents (who were only forced for this wedding ), they foresaw these issues earlier. her parents always wanted her to study, they were not at all interested in her gettg married so early. DH is a family oriented guy. He is a nice person, except that he is not able to support her fully since her MIL and SIL should not feel tht their son hanged changed after marr. he cannot come out of that family to live as a nuclear family. she doesnt know wat to do if she had to live with him again.. she is getting the feeling that he betrayed her.. she want to live in that family for her DH and not for the sake of his siblings and mom. If he cannot stand up for her wat is the point in living together??

just a kind person.. with all these expectations, when your spouse fails to meet one, you will squander.. truth be told, if you can find someone who can match your intellect, make you happy and make you smile, you have found the one.. everything else is just icing on the cake..

PS: If someone brought me any questionaire before trying to find out if I am a match, I would kick them out. Obviously, this person would have insecurities! :)

We had love marriage, and all I expected was for my dh to love and respect me, just the way I love and respect him.

Also, I was very adament about not wanting to marry a smoker, I simply can't stand the smell it makes me feel sick... so after 15 years of smoking my dh gave it up for me before we got married. It is supposedly very hard to quit, but my dh says he loved me so much he would do anything to keep me. I thought that was very sweet. To this day he has kept his promise. :biggrin2:

I think in any marriage, love or arranged, you should have basic expectations that have to be met or relationship is not worth it... love, respect, understanding, committment... other things like good looks, money, social status, come and go. But if the foundation for your relationship is strong and based on the things that really matter, everything will be ok.
