Though I had not read this poem earlier, I had told this view to many of my friends who were over bearing parents and expected a lot in return from their children. It was really thrilling to realise that my thoughts and feelings were similar to that of a personality as famous as Kaleel Gibran!

    Kamla,
Thanks for posting it here for easy ref.
Khalil Gibran, I came to know about this poem, when posted Cheeniya Sir, I suppose..
I immediately noted it in my book...
I am remembering it everyday whenever any 'disagreement' starts with my children and it helps me come out of that blue very fast..

    Greetings
Your thought on Galil was fabulous..Infact if we understand it, we ll not get angry on our kids at anypoint of time,,,because i personally feel that we ve no right to get angry on them as they r nature s children,,,we r tools to bring them...they r our treasures..not our playkit on which we can do any and everything

I set out on a search for your posts and discovered this one. I can see that you put it up a long while ago. Probably it is not relevant to comment on it anymore. Nonetheless, I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed reading it. It is put simply yet forcefully. I enjoyed the truth it speaks. Loved the last line most of course:

"For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable."

    Hi Kamla,
I love what u have written ..its a few years old ..but the message within is eternal..
we do so much for our children..when they don't care about us ..we sulk feel sad remind them about the sacrifices we made ....
we should learn not to expect ..if they care ..great , if they forget ..also great !

    Dear Jaijui,

Thanks for liking the poem. I love it too, this poem which so well explains the universal fact so vividly.

Your fb brought me to this thread after a long time and I was surprised to note that it had attracted few other ILites too recently including Ojaantrik-da.

But before I say anything more, let me hasten to clarify that this poem was not written by me Jaijui. I hope you are aware of that!! If I could write even one sentence like that, I would be on cloud 9 and not in this chair here!! All of us have to thank the great Khalil Gibran for his wisdom and words and for sharing it with us.

You are right, it is a poem that every parent should read at least once.

    L, Kamla
