Absolutely. I had my Dad (doc, Prof) bugging me to start cows milk from 8-9 mnths even when I explained everything to him. He was very happy when I weaned Aadhu - somehow to him BFing was his daughter "suffering" in some way - wierd...wonder how we all will behave 30 years from now...

Do you think this thing is inherited? My MIL is exactly like that and DH is 50% of his mom in this.

Not true as Krithika has explained already. Start solids as close to the 6 mnth mark as you can but its also seems to be that some kids are ready for solids even at 4 mnths or 5 mnths - watch your baby and decide.

I didnt login at all yesterday - very busy day - my Dad was visiting and we had a wedding to go to in the evening. DH's cousin sis has come from the US, so off to the ILs now..

    Hai ladies,

It has been 2 months since I am gone and so many replies in this thread. I have given up the idea of going through the previous posts in this thread. Okay let me tell about my trip so far in India. It has been quite bad. I got admitted to the hospital after 2 days of coming to India because of stomach pain. Doctors said I have umbilical hernia but the stomach pain that I had was not associated with this. They gave me some medicines for gastric trouble and sent me home. After 2 months again I seem to be getting the same kind of stomach pain and now I am really scared. Both my kids went through a very bad phase of catching cold, cough and ear infection. Now they seem to be settling down a little bit. I introduced solids to Akki at 6.5months - I am very happy about that. He was having green poops continously for so many weeks and his ped said it is an indication that he is hungry. Bile is getting produced too much in the stomach when he is hungry and that is how it is turning into green poop. So he suggested that we start introducing solid food. After introducing rice cereal, the next day itself green turned to yellowish poop. So I felt guilty about keeping my baby hungry for so many weeks thinking I would introduce solids only after 6months.

I put Appu into a Montessori school here. He seems to be liking his new school, but definitely he missing his father. He is not eating properly and has already lost a couple of kgs of weight. Any ideas what I can do to make him eat food? Oh another thing is we are not getting any school van, so I have to drop and pick him up from school which easily consumes 1.5 hrs of my time. I am just tired of my daily routine. By the way anybody having Keratokonus - because I have been diagnosed with it. Doctor says it is still in the initial stages and not to worry.

I have to go. I will come back with more from my side later.

    Hello everyone,

Not feeling ok! Need some suggestion please :help. Got a baby 6 and half months old.
Hmmmm..i dont know where to start!
I have starterd solids for him like rice congee, ragi congee, mashed idly.
Yeserday i have started giving some boiled carrot. He loves it.
In between i breast feed him as advised by the pediatrician as ahe has told me continue till a year.
He has got a practice of going to sleep taking my feed. Generally he is a light sleeper from birth. And was colicky till 3 months. Wakes up even to the lowest noise. Till 3 months he used to go to bed only by 4 am :crazy.
Slowly it changed and then he started sleeping by taking my feed around 10.30 pm (always not the same time) and he wakes up for mother feed in the nights around 3-4 times and dozes off. But for past 3 weeks he wakes up in the middle of the night, plays a little and cries and then goes off to sleep with my feed after 2 hrs. The problem is i have to lie down along with him and feed. But now i have started developing lower back pain as i have to adjust to him while i feed him in the bed. Its terrible! Even i try to keep him awake most of the time in the morning hours, so that he will sleep peacefully in the nights. But that doesnt work he wants to go to sleep only when he wants to. If we try to control his sleep by delaying him, he creates a big galatta.I dont have any control over his sleep. What can i do ? Will he change ? My parents advise me that he will change in months ? Experienced moms help me please ...Drowning

Good to see you here, hope things get better with you.
I am very intrigued by the green poopy thingy... I guess the doctor meant a foremilk, hindmilk imbalance. Too much lactose and not enough fat, I dont think your child went hungry if you were nursing her on demand.
Dear, you've had issues for a while now right, hope you feel better soon. How long do you plan to stay here? Hope the rest of your trip is better.
Latha, the advice I got was to start with rice cereals. But K will have nothing to do with it, he had a distinct preference for naturally sweet food!
Traditionally, we had this ceremony at 10 months when the first rice is given to the child. Though we were formula fed as kids, my parents gave us first rice about that time.
Mayaworld, children apparently have a regression at around the 7th month. Yes, it does pass like your parents said. The one thing you may want to do is gently stop nursing to sleep. Put him down to sleep when he is drowsy and pat him to sleep.
If your child's head had stabilised by now, another way of nursing in the night may be the downunder position (as in Australia, dont know why really it is called that) - mother lies down on her back and the baby is on top of her. This is the one I use to date. We could never night nurse lying down because of K's reflux. Once his head stabilised at around 4.5 months, I started doing the down under positioning and am still when K is almost 2.
The best thing, of course, is to start strengthening your lower back! If you want to have more children, you better get fit now Big Laugh

Latha, I started out with sweet potatoes, bananas and avocados, once a day (these are very low allergenic foods). Later on I added rice cereals for thickening her food (and also to add the extra iron that rice cereals come with). I noticed that Riya would also stop up if I gave her too much of iron loaded cereals. Also, I wasn't too keen on feeding her boxed cereals either, so I started feeding her food that has a higher iron content. I started out with once a day solids on lunch time, but by 7 or 8 months we started feeding solids as dinner so we can all eat together. Since the last week or so Riya is on solids three meals a day.

Amitha, welcome back! I am sorry to hear about the health issues. Hope you feel better soon.

mayaworld, welcome to this forum. Each baby is different when it comes to sleep. But my one advice would be to teach your baby to fall asleep on the bed or crib half awake instead of falling asleep while nursing. After struggling with our daughter's nap and sleep issues, I re-learned the issue of 'baby sleep' and one of those was how to teach her to fall asleep without a 'prop' like a boob. We still have issues but nowhere near what it was a couple months ago. There are a lot of threads in this forum where we discussed sleep issues, do a search or go to the alphabetical index to learn more. Good luck.

Hugs to you Amitha. Hope you feel better soon. Like K said green poop can also be due to lesser fat intake. Starvation does cause increase biliary output and hence green color but if you baby has been growing well and seemed satiated after meals then starvation was not the cause in your case.

    girls,

a quick update... my poor boy is down with, possibly, gastroentritis. His teacher called me when i was just about to leave home that he pooped twice and was sleeping in the park (where they went for a walk). I took him directly from there to the doc. On the way he pooped in his undie itself.. poor thing he kept on apologising:( Doc said it could be a bacterial and he'll be off milk, citrus until friday. Other than that no medication is needed, he says. I have diarroheasan in case we need it. It is so unfortunate that we can't go to the christmas party tomorrow. I don't want other kids to catch the infection. When he said bye to his teacher he told her that he'll come tomorrow to see Nikolaus... dearie my heart went out for him. I even told his teacher that i could bring him just for the party but she didn't favour it... fully understandable. Anyways... i do hope he gets better soon. I hate to see him so weak and exhausted.

Hugs for Aniish, poor child. I too get bad headaches when I have an upset tummy; often for me it is the first symptom of things not moving properly in the intestine. Hope he gets better quickly. Maybe some home celebrations, daddy dressing up as St Nick!

Hugs to you Latha, and to little Aniish. Hope he feels better soon.

P is also very excited about "Kissmas" this time - they may have been learning about it in the daycare. He says "Kissmas Tee!" and also talks about "Santa Cos". The other new words/sentences he seems to have newly learnt are "Watch me" - he jumps and says "Watch me, amma", and Help - he says "Elp me, amma" - very cute...

Mayaworld, welcome to this thread! Nice to have more people join. I agree with Raj - try to get the baby to sleep without the feeding - you may try lullabies, soft music,, gently rocking etc. It does take patience to do that, and it is tough, so hang in there (it will get better!)

Hi to you, Amitha. Take care...

Ladies, thank you all for taking the time to share your views / knowledge / experience. I feel better now having read all of your comments. Will watch my LO for signs of being ready for solids... but I think she's got some time... she's only 3.5 months. But you'd never know! She is almost double her birth weight.
Good to hear the good things about Dr B.
Krithika, I read that article about the uses of BM and you have used that yourself on K. My lil one has been having a cold .. just stuffiness , no runny nose... for the last one month. Its not too bad. It doesn't bother her as much as it bothers me. I have been using saline drops when needed. I tried the BM a few days and felt it was getting worse so I stopped. How long does it take for the cold to go away? I was suspecting some kind of allergy. I don't know...
And she keeps pulling at her ears as well. Doesnt cry but looks frustrated. The doc had prescribed candibiotic ear drops. Acc to him its clear now but she still keeps tugging on her ears. My doc just held a flashlight & peeked into her ears. Is that enough? Don't you need an otoscope or something to confirm if there is an infection or not?
Latha, hope your lil boy gets better soon.
    Sylvia
