    Hi Friends,

Your advise on housing and tihngs to bring were very useful and as planned iam in singapore now with the family.

We found a house in Punggol and are settling down...We basically now need some urgent advice on childcare centers and its costs in pungool...my wife is also working and her job requires her to join soon...

Basically we need to place our 5 month baby in childcare from 7 a.m -7p.m and also our 17 month old son from 7a.m - 7 p.m too...

Can you please advise on the following things?

    - Cost of full day childcare in punggol or in general in singapore? We are not PRs and i heard that the prices vary from citizen to PR to EP pass holders.
    - Name of good childcare places?
    - Do they really manage to take care of kids well?what are your experiences on this(if any).

I thank you sincerely in advance for all your insights and advice.

    Regds,
    Sidd

    Hi siddarth,

I prefer you employ a full time indian maid who can take care of ur 5 mth old baby as well as ur son. I don't have idea abt child care. maid expenses will be around 600+ a mth. If u r planning to have both ur kids in child care, i personally feel it will work out too expensive with that of employing a full time maid. Any ways good luck.

    Have a great day
    Sumi

    Hi Sumi,

    Thanks for your kind reply...

We have had bad experiences in employing maids earlier(when we were in India)...it is a painful decision for every parent to leave the kid in someone else's lap and go to work everyday....will miss the fun of seeing the child learn, adapt, sleepoff and grow up....but still we have to go to the job since taking a break of few years from job could mean end of career too.

Iam aware of the relatively low cost of maids(600) in singapore but how good are they??in general is there a standard that they could maintain?

Basically we opted for looking out for childcare THINKING(may be totally wrong with our thinking too)that childcare centers would do a better job in serving the kids....

Members - Guide us through this phase in taking a decision and we would be much obliged.

    Thank You,
    Sidd

    Hi Siddharth,

I too have a 18 mo girl and i'm a working mom. I had same confusion like you and preferred child care, but i went for a maid and now i feel very very happy for choosing this. This is a vast topic, but will put it down n short.

Both have it's pros and cons. But u're 5 month need personal care than learning, moreover for infants they don't do much activities in child care. Maid can do the house work as well and take care of both ur kids. All these will turn positive only if the maid is good, but hope for the best. It's easy and good if u have good control on the maid an organize things well. u can put ur elder son in play group if u want him to learn....

    All the very best!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Siddharth,

    sorry for the late reply

My child has been attending childcare here since turning 1yr old. I personally find it a good arrangement as the centre keeps them active, kid learns to blend with the local crowd (if u plan to stay here for the long haul), learns to do things independantly, builds confidence etc . I am personally not for maids (had a bad exp too) and in fact even when we had the maid, she was still going to the childcare.

The cons are the ferrying around ie. dropping them and picking them, plus need to take leave if they are unwell. better planning in these respects will help .. so you could choose a centre close to home or close to either u or ur wife's workplace.

Maid is a plus as the house chores will be done plus it will provide a backup incase u guys can't take leave off work. However the maid becomes a major pbm if she is not good with kids and has mood problems. This is my 2 cents worth.

Cost of chilcare - depends on the kind of centre - good ones can cost upto $600 for full-day care. Yes, PRs/ citizens get some subsidy. One good centre in Pungol is Learning Vision childcare.
Please note that infant cares are more expensive than childcare (=after 18months) as the babies need additional care. They do have kid related activities at the infant care to work on their motor skills, movements etc. You might want to choose centre with lot of space and they usually have good play areas.

Lastly, one should always remember that the outside care is never as good as parents' care so you and your wife should keep an open mind about the arrangemnt as it might or not suit ur needs. Do be patient the first month or so when the child will have withdrawal symptoms and cry a lot. After that they will settle in. Most of the centres allow visits to check the school, so go around and have a look. Spend sometime with the teachers and check how they behave and relate to the kids.

All the best on the search.

    bye

Can anyone please advice me on good child care centres in east zone of Singapore(preferably Tampines)? I am planning to put my 20 months old son in child care. It would be nice if the cc has indian environment for eg. Indian teachers, more indian kids....
