Scientific information shared is very much appreciated, vimmala, alongwith Lakshmi's post and shree's link..radhika's pictures...
to tell the truth, am still not able to master it overall, so whenever I pay a visit to India, I make it a point to learn it...successful till I leave India and once left, I completely forget the nuances of it..
So when my parents came over here , I learnt how to drape it from a 6-yard saree...
Hope to remember when I actually wear it on the festival days...

Thanx for the info.. i never knew that there was a science behind it. But i know an interesting piece of information on madisar. They say the madisar saree looks like ardhanaareeswarar (one half siva and one half parvathi), half will have the pleats and the other half would look like a dhoti. Usually since this madisar is worn after wedding, they say we would feel that the husband and wife is united even in terms of wearing a saree.. have you guys noticed it ever?

How do u ladies find it comfy wearing it...Ive worn it juz once for my wedding and Gosh it was real pain I shud say...firstly 2 people(my chithi n DH's athai), the so called experts frm the 2 sides tried draping me in it...I guess it flopped juz bcoz both of them cudnt complement each other as they were frm the brides n grooms side...before the wedding everybody were telling me that I wud look gud in madisar as Im pretty tall n so I had the presumption that I wud look great as the experts were doing the job as well but I was so damn uncomfortable...everytime we had to go around the fire and sit down once again, I had somebody helping me wid which part of it to pull...Ive never tried to wear it again but perhaps I wl want to wear it properly once to convince myself that the attire that my patti has been in for v.long is def not as bad as I think :thumbsup

BTW, thanks for sharing the sceintific reason :)
