    Hi Padmavathi,

Am impressed with your resolution. We take our own cloth bags when we go shopping & don't use plastic disposable plates etc. That's it ; apart from that , don't know how to reduce its usage.
But can't deny plastic is very very durable and very useful around the house. Esp. for storing / organising etc. Every room in our home, some form or other we are using plastic ; for storing clothes /toys/books , veggies in fridge we use plastic boxes /covers, tub & mug in bathroom , even the trash baskets ....
How & with what material did you replace them ? Can you give some pointers or tips on how to reduce our dependence on plastic ?

    Thanks.

    Dear Padmavathi

You have taken a step in the right direction and I applaud your efforts. However as Grace has pointed out, it is not possible to immediately replace plastic completely, considering how cheap and versatile plastic is.

However , with spreading awareness, I have seen that some of the bigger supermarkets offer brown paper bags to carry the groceries, instead of the traditional plastic ones.I just hope that with increasing environmental responsibility , our dependence on plastic steadily reduces.

    Regards.

    Dear Padmavathy,

Your resolution is right, But all in a sudden we will not be in a position to stop having plastics in houses. It takes vert important place in our life by way of storing. However I started using gunny bags ()Big Shopper)
    for shopping.

    Hi Padma,

Congratulations on completing 10months! I'm sure with your determination, you'll cross a year soon. :thumbsup

As for me, I've just started taking jute bags to the market, as only recently has it been so "hyped" in Dubai - GO GREEN! It's very hard for me to not use plasticwares around the house for storeage or organizing. I have absolutely NO containers made of any other material. Stainless steel boxes are durable but storing them is hardbonk. Glass containers have to be used very delicately :spin

Padma, you'll have to give us pointers on how you achieved your resolution.

    Waiting :coffee

    Dear friends,

Atleast for food storage we can use steel or glass instead of plastic............and make up your mind not to buy any more plastics.................that itself is a resolution my dear ILITES
Did you all notice what i had mentioned, i stopped buying plastics, but still struggling to discard all those plasticwares........as you all had said......my house was like plastic plastic everywhere plastic........:spin storage, toys, bathroom mugs, tubs, buckets, just think how hard it would have been for me for the past 10 months..............of course i will succeed in that too...............may be after a year or two my house will be a plastic free house.............:ideainitially i started with water bottles, those pet bottles.........threw them in the garbage...........then i replaced my spices boxes with small steel boxes.........then plastic buckets with steel buckets..........
let me change, the whole world will change, and not i can change the world...........this is what i follow.............
when i started this thread, i thought none of the ilites would respond, but very happy to see that there are people who think alike............we will succeed my dear friends............:thumbsup

    Dear Padmavathi
:2thumbsup: for taking such a resolution and :hatsoff for following it. I know taking resolution is much easier than following them.

Whatever, though your intention is 100% correct, switching over from plastic comes over time cos of its own benefit. Maintainance is easier, cost effective, and when arranged well looks great in the kitchen.
But, its true we should bring in more strictness about using it and thanks for alerting us on this.

Nowadays, even in the trains (I am not sure about other region, but in Bihar in Jharkand) we are given with mudka-chai (Chai that is given in a small mud cup instead of a plastic cup). Something to be appreciated...
