What is the harm of taking medication with sip of water instead of glass of water

My Dad cannot eat or drink the midnight before his Angiogram

However he takes a daily medication for like that requires 8 oz of water

    1. the Nurse Manager says he can take med with sip before Angiogram
    2. Pharmacist confirmed that for this one occasion it is ok to have medication with sip of water instead of 8 oz
    3. Primary Care Physiciann says take the medicine with sips of water is fine, not 8 oz

Our question: what is the harm of taking medicine with one sip everyday instead of 8 oz everyday

Please explain based on your experiences

Drink x glasses/liters of water a day - that has always been the popular wisdom, though that is currently being questioned. Your body knows best and it guides you to drink as much water as it needs is the current wisdom. There will never be any agreement on this as different docs will tell you different things.

As for drinking wate with medication, I have no clue what medication your dad is taking and what the recommendations for that are and so won't venture to comment on that.

All i can say from personal experience is that I take just as much water as is required to swallow the tablet/capsule without it sticking in my throat. The remaining requirement is consumed during the rest of the days in various forms of liquid. I can't drink 2 liters of water in addition to my usual quota of liquids. That however is a personal thing. Making me drink 2 liters of water is akin to putting me through Japanese torture. When I feel thirsty, my body demands water and then I drink plenty of it. I just listen to my body and follow its diktats.

My Dad takes Synthroid. Pharmacists, Dr says take with 8 oz

However before his Angiogram and his TAVR, he was told to take Synthroid but with few sips of water.

Hence the question of, "what is the harm of taking Synthroid with less water"

My Dad also has chronic low blood sodium levels, hence is always advised to drink less water

If there is no harm in taking less than 8 oz of water with Synthroid, then it makes my Dad's Sodium management easier.

Of course, thirst is your body's way of telling you to drink water. Even hunger may be a sign that you are thirsty!

For some medicines, a small sip may not be enough. The amount and type of fluid that is best for you will depend on the properties of your medicine and on the particular diseases or conditions that you have. I would suggest better to follow advise of specialist doctor than a pharma guy. It is not a question of convenience or comfort but entirely depends on type of chemicals in tab or capsule. With water tab when washed out to reach intestine it is said to be absorbed better.
Wishing all the best to Dad & you
    Regards.

I take Synthroid and I usually take it just with a small amount of water since it’s the last thing I do before I go to sleep.

    Thank you so much

Synthroid is a trickly medication. it interacts with everything. On google medical websites it says drink with 8oz water

It was during emergencies, such as Angiogrm, Heart Operation that my Dad could not drink water, yet had to take Synthroid. Hence was told to drink with few sips.

synthroid usually is suggested to take as the first medicine before even you have anything..

some meds that are metabolized by kidneys are recommended to be taken with plenty of water
some meds are good to be taken with fatty food.. while some more like most antibiotics are good to be taken with food to reduce the side effects (when med kill bad bacteria, it also kill some of good bacteria which results in diarrhea)

unless some elders have water restriction in some cases i remember my grandma use to limit her water intake because of her medical conditions
