The easiest thing you can do is minimize the dirt entering your home at the source.
I have the LLBean Waterhog mats on the front steps and then again in the mud room. Shoes get wiped here, and then taken off and put in the shoe rack in the mud room. We then immediately change into house slippers before entering. I have the same mats at the back entrance too. You can get the mats in indoor/outdoor versions. I vacuum them whenever I’m doing the floors and also hose them off periodically.

My house cleaners use mop for hardwood floors (same as @Thoughtful 's post) and they use shark model vaccum cleaners for carpets.
I have a simple steam mop by Bissel ( https://www.amazon.com/Bissell which I use for hardwood and kitchen tile floors. So far no issue, good for quick cleaning. Also, we can control level of steam.
For heavy cleaning on rug/carpet / tiles we use steam wash (exact model I could not find but its similar to https://www.amazon.com/Hoover-Powerscrub-Cleaner).In addition to that I use robot vaccum cleaners for hardwood floors in ground floor for daily use and also have regular vacum cleaners for hardwood / carpet. For quick cleaning of car and sofa, I have hand held vacuum cleaners(check Amazon ). I dont like heavy vacum cleaners for frequent use, dont have patience to connect different parts. So, its just personal preferance on easy use. Also, my kids can use it easily. As I am a lazy cat, ready to use, less effort -more impact, is my policy on house cleaning:).. Hope this helps

Ohh thanks for this information. I am new to this mat and never heard or used it. I will check it out.
Is it to be put on outside the doors in the front and back ? As well as inside the doors as foyer runners?

Thank you so much. It helps a lot.

Do your house cleaners use o cedar pedal style mop for mopping?
I bought that today which is the same link as @Thoughtful given. I used it today and didn't like much. May be I have to get used to that type of mop.

Yeah light weight vacuum cleaners are always best and I follow the same principles as you.

So I might end few different types of vacuum to clean all the things around the house? This is new and I am still learning about these cleaning and maintenance lol.

I bought this mop today. I was at Lowe's store for something else and saw this at the entrance. They have 2 different models in this mop. With 2 buckets and single bucket. I chose the single bucket one. Used it on my floors and felt like so much of work. May be my house is yet to be filled with things and have more hardwood space.

I have to get used to this mop. Will see after few uses. I am also planning to buy one flip flop one or spray mop to just try and see.

You can do both inside and outside if you like, but I just have mine at the entrances. They have indoor and outdoor versions in several shapes and sizes.

Yes, it can be used on leather and fabric sofas.

Learning so much from this thread. I only knew about Bona cleaning liquid and used Dyson cordless plus a flip mop. The picture below is my cleaning routine. Vacuum with the Dyson. Mop with Bona and the flip/stick mop. Anything with a bucket is too much work for me.

Didn't know about the vinegar or steam clean options. In fact, if even a little water spills, I wipe it promptly and thoroughly because that's what my husband said we should do! In the kitchen and laundry, I actually leave a folded paper towel on the floor in a corner. I use my foot to wipe any spills with it. LOL.

OP, you may also want to check the exact type of your house's wood flooring: solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, laminate, vinyl. The most common in new houses in my area seems to be LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) and it looks very good.

Oh ok. I will check it out.
You said about house slippers, what do you use? Like foam slippers?
I always get one slipper /warm indoor shoes to use inside the house. My feet sweat a lot and the slippers will stink within a day of use. I had to wash it every day in the washer and I ended up throwing them out.
I was using this one. I have knee pain which is chronic now and I had to use this as suggested by the PT to have some ankle support.

Even after washing, I can't leave the slipper and sit with bare foot. Because it will stink so much if I leave the slippers. That will be very embarrassing if I have any guests. To walk in the carpet, I usually leave the slippers off near the hardwood floors and walk in bare foot in the carpet.

Do you use house slippers for both carpet and hardwood floors? Any stink proof slippers suggestions?

Thank you so much for picturising your routine.. really appreciate it.

You are right about the bucket thing mops. I bought one today and it's really a lots of Job to do . Also, I am little tall and I felt that's shorter for my height and I had to bend down to get the work done.

If I may ask, why your husband said we need to clean it immediately if water spills? Just curious if there's any other reason other than keeping house clean.

I got to know about steam mop and spray mop when I was researching about vacuums. I am planning to try a spray mop as this bucket thing didn't work out for me.
I have used the flip one at my apartment and it was easy to use. But I had to drop or sprinkle water everywhere on the floor to mop clean.

I am not sure about the hardwood type. I remember we talked about this with my builder, I have to recheck it.

To leave the paper towel is a good idea lol. I used to put a microfiber cloth ( a small one) near my leg under the sink and gas stove. Always scrub it and I had to wash those. Using a paper towel is a good and easy idea.

I think the hardwood installer must have said that water staying long on the wood will make it warp. We took that too seriously, I guess. : ) In general, we are very picky about keeping the floors clean. Now the dusty window blinds, window sills, cobwebs on wall & ceilings, dust on door frame, never ever cleaned windowpanes etc are a different story. Other than me all walk around barefoot, so the floors have to be clean.

I used to do that India style sprinkling water on linoleum from a mug by shaking my hand and drops of water falling.. : ) Till I found a good quality spray bottle with a sturdy nozzle and that didn't topple when almost empty.

No. I have the V11 Animal Pro which I believe costs a little less than the V11 Torque. The models available in Costco keep changing.

If you have never used a cordless vacuum before, keep in mind that the battery durations they claim in the website (50-60 mins or more) are for optimal conditions. So, it might run for much less time for you per charge.
