    Hi,
I need suggestions for Vacuum cleaner and mop for vinyl hard wood floor and carpets. Anyone use hot steam mop for your wood floors?
I am debating myself to buy a cordless/corded vacuum over the robot vacuum because of the price perspective. Is it really worth to go for robot vacuum than corded ones?
I recently moved into a house and have to buy some vacuum cleaner for my carpeted rooms and hardwood floor. Is there any vacuum which does serves the purpose for both?
I am also looking for a mop and saw some good reviews for shark mop with steam. Does hot steam mop good for hard wood floors? Mine is a new house and I am not sure if we can use steam mop on the new hard wood floors?

Can we use hot steam mop on new hard wood floors?
Any thoughts and suggestions please. Appreciate the links too.

I have a Dyson V11 stick that I bought after my corded vacuum died, and I really like it. I have hardwood floors all over the main living areas of my house covered by a lot of rugs, and a large shedding dog. The stick does an excellent job and because it’s so easy to use I pull it out much more often than my old vacuum. The only thing I don’t like is having to keep my finger on the trigger the whole time.

I would recommend against steam cleaning your hardwood floor. It is not good for the floor.

A simple mop with warm water and vinegar will do wonders.

I have had my eye on this mop

Not a big fan of robot vacuum for my current home and the new models. But I have had good success in my previous one. It depends on how you will use it and if you can gain value out of it.

    Thanks @MalStrom .
Dyson v11 will work for your both hardwood floors and carpet areas ( bedrooms)?

Also, what do you use for mopping your hard wood floor?

Yeah I saw this mop online. Didn't check the reviews much.
I was checking this one. Not sure if it's good for hardwood floors. I am new to all these and don't have much idea about it.

Yes, the vacuum works well for both. To clean the floors I use Bona cleaner with warm water and a regular mop. I immediately dry each section with a clean rag before moving to the next. I don’t have much hardwood exposed though.

I have hardwood floors with a few rugs. I use the Dyson V11 cordless one and like it a lot. At medium setting, I get quite some area covered in like 25 minutes. I should say I try to maximize area covered, moving the vacuum quite swiftly, not going over an area multiple times, and it is more of a light, regular cleaning. My husband is the opposite, uses it as maximum power, moves the vacuum slowly, and makes sure to catch every speck of dust.

After the vacuum, I mop it right away using only Bona and a regular flip-flop mop. I spray very little Bona and the ceiling fan is on, so it dries up within seconds.

Dyson has a very generous battery replacement policy. I had a Dyson V8 cordless for years then the battery became faulty. I was about to give it away but my husband researched and they sent a replacement battery, easy to install. So, I ended up with the new V11 and the old V8. I can't tell the difference between the two. I just saw V10 is on sale in Costco online $100 off.

Like MalStrom said, we have to hold the on button pressed while vacuuming and that can be a pain literally.

All that said, you do need to have a corded electric vacuum cleaner also for occasional use or when you want to clean the whole house in one go. We have the corded Dyson Ball Animal Pro (also from Costco, also bought on sale). It is nice but as I get older I find it too heavy to carry up and down the stairs.

We always buy vacuum cleaner from Costco for the return policy.

The cordless Dyson has many other uses such as cleaning window blinds, shutters, even computer keyboard, office chair, my work desk, and car interior. My favorite use is on non-skid bathroom rugs. I run it in only one direction on the rugs and then on the tiles. That is for quick mid-week clean of bathroom floors when I don't want to pickup the rugs, shake them and do deep clean.

I have been using Dyson since last 4 years and it’s the best investment ever. It has got multiple attachments for wood, carpet, coach/ car cleaning.

I wanted to use steam mop but worried about the damage. Hence using wet swiffer as of now.

Maybe in future I definitely want to try the robot vacuum..

If you have moved into a bigger home then definitely robotic vacuums might be of great help.

Which Dyson model you are using?

I am worried the same about steam mop. But DH is so obsessed with the steam mop.

Yeah moving into a house from an apartment. Might try robotic vacuum in future.

Thank you so much @Rihana for your inputs. This is really informative.

I am moving from an apartment to a house. So I don't have any idea about these Dyson expensive vacuums.

I believe it's worth to spend on one vacuum like this.

I was googling and reading reviews for few models. Was so confused which one to choose. I saw few models from shark brand.

Saw some YouTube videos of the steam mop from shark brand and my husband wanted to buy it. I am worried if it will damage the hardwood floors. Since it's new , I thought I can use a normal mop.

To start with, I will buy a vacuum ( either corded or cordless) and explore it's options. I have few exposed hardwood space without rugs.

I am also debating about corded and cordless pros and cons. Your response gave me those answers. Thank you.

Does cordless Dyson cleans up the sofa fabric too?
