I used to cut it into six sections and pry away the seeds slowly, often while watching TV. Took a long time.

Kid found a video where it said to hit the back of half a pomegranate with a wooden spoon till all the seeds pop out. That does work but I have to clean up the kitchen floor afterward.

    How do you deseed pomegranates?

I used a lot of tricks and finally found the most convenient way.
1st make a cut in the pomegranate skin exactly at half (dont cut deeply, knife should cut only into the skin of pomegranate).
Then with hands pull both the halves apart and you will see 2 halves of pomegranate with thin white fibrous septa separating the seeds into 4 to 5 compartments.
Give nicks into those white fibrous layer not too deeply.
Then turn the half over a deep vessel n pat with a laddle. All seeds will come out neatly without mess.

The skin-deep-only cut is vertical like in the below image? Or it is horizontal along the "equator"?

My husband also suggested to watch some video, but that will prolong the cutting time.
I cut fast and ofcourse deseeding takes some time. My DH tried once to hit with the laddle
and the counter top was messed up. I felt to do my traditional method rather than spending time to watch video instructions and do.

I stood as a kid infront of juice centre - anbhayazhgan pazha kadai at corner of Ranganathan street T Nagar Chennai on one winter afternoon, when a glass of juice was costing around ₹20. I had no such big money in my pockets. Yet i was looking at the slim tall boy who was attending standing customers for pome juice.

A large deep metal sieve covering a broad mouth container over which he was holding a washed pome and tapping it gently all around and then he pushed it across a standing blade split the red cherry into two ; he held a piece in hand gently tapping with a spatula over the sieve and the arils- ruby red seeds dislodged from its chambers easily. Then visually inspected the collected seeds for damaged and rotten ones - removed it and then the rest into juicer....

I was assigned this peeling and deseeding work when my young spouse & i were invited for lunch by our neighbour. The host was quite delighted that I could tap and dislodged that virgin arils almost untouched by hand.

In tamil savants and lyricists associate arils to lips!

No actually it has to be cut horizontally along the equator but only into the outer skin n not cut through n through with knife.
