we are a couple residing in the US with permanent resident permits for both. We are of Indian origin and we are looking to adopt a baby from India. I see that being matched with a baby/child is a process and requires that we be with the baby/child in India for 2 years before we are able to bring the child to the US. I personally do not know of any who went through this process. By posting this I am hoping to connect and know of others' experience if they were in a similar boat and have been able to adopt. And please let me know if you are willing to share any further details as well in a DM, if I have any other questions. Many thanks!
Have you contacted a local agency in your area that handles international adoptions? They will be able to walk you through the process and tell you all the current rules and regulations. When we looked into the process a few years ago there was a waitlist to be matched with a child but no requirement to live in India for such a long time before bringing the child home.
Hi there, Many congratulations for thinking of adoption, wishing you borh success. First and foremost please register with CARA.nic.in and go through the website to answer most of your queries. You will have a local volunteer, who will have a tie up with CARA and who can help you further. Physical, physiological tests are required too, besides the reason for adoption. All the best in your future endeavors Regards Nandini
